Lonesome Dove | Show Me A Photo Contest Round 147
Hello, friends.
I met this lonely pigeon on the pier near the Museum of the World Ocean in Kaliningrad.
Walking along the embankment of the Pregolya River, I came to the Museum of the World Ocean. The day was cloudy, an unpleasant cold breeze was blowing from the sea, there were few people walking around the museum, so no one interfered with my exercises with the camera. Here, on the pier, honored ships are permanently moored, having served their time in sea expeditions and now become museum ships.
The most famous of them is the former research vessel Vityaz.
The ship "Vityaz" became part of the Institute of Oceanology of the USSR Academy of Sciences in 1949. Over 30 years of operation, the Vityaz vessel completed 65 expeditions in the Pacific, Indian and Atlantic oceans. During the expeditions, the ship covered about 800 thousand nautical miles and carried out research at about 8,000 oceanographic stations. During biological research of the ocean depths, Vityaz scientists discovered 1,176 new species of deep-sea animals and plants.
A great contribution to geographical science was made by the Vityaz expeditions to study and compile maps of the underwater relief of the World Ocean.
The research vessel Vityaz made its last scientific expedition in 1979.
Now the ship “Vityaz” is permanently moored at the pier of the Museum of the World Ocean and is open to tourists.
This lonely dove was sitting near such a wonderful ship.
