Edelweiss from Shishka Mountain | POBphotocontest New Round: FLOWERS

avatar

Hello, friends.
Spring is just beginning here, during the day the snow gradually melts and grass appears in the clearings. But there are still two or three weeks before the flowers appear. So I decided to use my photo archive.

Last July, my friends and I took a weekend hike to a mountain called Shishka.

This is a rather interesting place in historical terms; fragments of an ancient stone wall have been preserved on the top of the mountain. Archaeologists attributed this wall to the Okunev archaeological culture, which existed in the early Bronze Age, more than four thousand years ago. There is no clear opinion about the purpose of this wall, but most likely there was some kind of religious building there.

On the rock panels under the wall, ancient rock paintings - petroglyphs - have also been preserved. There are several groups of petroglyphs and archaeologists attribute the artists who created them to different eras and peoples.

In addition to historical interest, Mount Shishka is also of botanical interest. On this rather low mountain, where you can climb without any climbing equipment, high-mountain alpine edelweiss flowers grow.

There is a whole clearing of these flowers on Mount Shishke, and edelweiss blooms in mid-July. What is very interesting is that there are no edelweiss flowers on the neighboring mountains and in the valley; they grow only on Mount Shishke.

Another advantage of Mount Shishki is the surrounding view from the top.
