Esit Eket Cultural heritage and who they are!

It's another opportunity to be sharing with you of another interesting culture of Esit Eket people, a set of people in West Africa. Culture entails the true nature and origin of people of a certain settlement. Some cultures became a history when there's no posterity and the continuation but a culture became a live when it's still in practice and the people lived it out. This is why the Esit Eket people fought teeth and nails to imbibe this great heritage into even the generation yet unborn. The people of Esit Eket is traced to early Europeans who migrated and settled in what is today known as Akwa Ibom State. Esit Eket is one of local government in Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria with enormous natural resources and cultures.

Who they are!

It's believed that early Europeans migrated to West Africa in search for gold, slave trade and precious stones, in their quests for these, they were working with Ibibio people, some got married to the Ibibios, get family established, couldn't returned back to Europe. After many years of dwelling together with the Ibibios, they became a sub group of the Ibibio people

Their settlement

These sub group of Ibibio people, (the migrants) occupied a well demarcated territory in the Ibibio land, they share a common background of cultural heritage that posses a highly common outlook and a common belief in one supreme being called ABASI IBOM. After many years, they migrate and settled in different locations of the Akwa Ibom but some great number of them were still dwelling at the sub region which is known today as Esit Eketin Akwa Ibom State. Esit Eket area was an integral part of Eket area before the creation of Akwa Ibom as state in 1987 and Esit Eket became a local government area in the year 1989.

The culture

Esit Eket people is blessed with the rich and enviable cultural heritage. They conveys a unique culture the have a plethora of cultural displays of many kinds such as Ekong(War masquerade)

Including Ntok, Unaidi, Nnabo, Ibem
Ekpe-Obon, Nkuho etc. They have many cultural and ceremonial practices which helps to instill peace and order in the society, some of their cultural and ceremonial events includes Palm fruit harvesting festival, Year's end Ekpo (masquerade), status initiation, burial ceremony, coronation of chiefs into council and births and child-naming ceremony
