My little patients keep me hopeful-contest #156 [ENG-ESP]

Good afternoon dear community, this is the first time I post here, and I found the questions of this week's contest interesting, and I will try to answer them in unison, because every day I face, because of my situation at work, the fact of almost losing hope and sharing with you my story and how I overcome disappointment.

I am a urology specialist in a pediatric hospital in Holguín, Cuba, as some of you already know, at this moment public health is in its worst stage, affecting the possibilities of being able to operate children too much for the lack of resources, both material and human, with a waiting list of the largest in the country. It not only affects the health of children, it affects us psychologically as doctors who have to face shortages every day, the reproaches of parents, with all the reason in the world, but at the same time we are not to blame for that situation.

Week after week I go to the meetings where surgeries are planned, with hopes of getting good news, of the arrival of resources, but no, in the few occasions when we manage to plan something, an unforeseen event simply occurs and it is not achieved. I sit in front of the parents, disappointed, wanting to give up, but then I think of my children, my little patients, the reason why I chose to work in that hospital, they drive me not to give up, nobody is essential, but what would happen with them if we all give up, if we all ask for the low, then I take a deep breath, I count to three and I decide to continue fighting for them, they deserve all our love, dedication, our best attention and our best smile.

After leaving work, my safe space is Hive, when I needed it most, this opportunity came into my life, create content, take pictures, visit new places, interact with the community, make new friends, is what currently keeps me more positive, in addition to being another source of income in front of a salary that is among the lowest in the country.

The photographs that I show you in this publication are from this Tuesday, just before the surgeries of that day were suspended, we were happy because we had many cases to operate that day, but the happiness lasted little. Next Tuesday we will have the opportunity to try to operate on those children, I have all the hope that this time it will work. Nice afternoon everyone, thanks for reading my post.

I've been in Nursing Care for more than twenty years so I can understand how you feel. The work is not only physically tough but often emotionally draining while advocating for the interest of our patients. A satisfying and fulfilling profession, it has its ups and downs but I've hardly regretted choosing this as a career.

We love our profession, and it is difficult to work as we do here, I could not expose in this publication even half of the things that happen, add that most of the nurses and doctors in my country are thinking of asking for discharge and many have already done so. Thanks for commenting, congratulations for the years of work 🤗.

I can understand the frustration of not being able to provide patient needs. Our socialized medical system is deteriorating slowly so I'm expecting the same problems here in Canada in the not too distant future. I wish you many blessings.
And welcome to #ladiesofhive @im-yanizet

Healing little people is such a demanding position in countries where you struggle to obtain the necessary equipment or medication, children always arrive with hope in their hearts, good to dig deep and hang onto yours too.
