SPLINTERLANDS ART CONTEST: SLEEPING (LURKING) PUFFER

REFERENCE CARD: LURKING PUFFER

THE MATERIALS USED AND THE PROCESS
Materials used:
- Pencil
- Waterbased color pencils
- Waterbased paint
- Brushes
- Sketchpad
Process:
When I was starting my entry for this week's art contest, I did not have any particular artstyle in mind. What I did was to sketch and initial outline for my art theme. I started with an initial sketch of how I want it to look and its placement within my sketchbook. The design is like the lurking puffer has came out of the card and is sleeping at the moment, as you can see in the image above I first outline the card as the the platform where the lurking puffer will be sitting on.
The next step is to finalize ni outlines by erasing the unwanted lines and then tracing it with a black pen and then erase the remaining pencil marks to have a clean sheet to paint on. After finishing the outline, we can proceed to paint the first layer. This is really my first time that I put 100% percent of my commitment to finish a painted work, I didn't even know how to get the maroon color, I had to goole it... it need five parts of red paint mixed one part of blue paint and a bit of yellow to creat a slight brownish accent.
After adding the first laters if the colors, I still need to let the sheet dry. I already know that now waiting for the sketchpad sheet to dry, even though its thicker than a bond paper, it can still get ruin. One might ruin hours worth of hardwork and effort. When the paint has laready dried, it was time to add the shadows, highlights and incorporate details in the paintings. Well I did my best to that it wont look flat.😅
After being satisfied with the shadows and hightlights the has been applied, I proceed with the last step (or the last step that I did) tracing back the outline of the drawing to make it "pop" and look more cartoonish. And here again is the my entry for this week's splinterlands weekly art contest.

I hope that you guys like my entry for this week's splinterlands art contest. Good Luck to all entries! Thank you so much for taking your time in looking into my blog, until next time, take care and see ya!
