Hive Backed Dollars, or HBD, is a very important part of what makes the Hive Blockchain valuable. The stablecoin is meant to be a medium of exchange, encouraging people to transact with each other in a new parallel economy while keeping stability in service and product prices.
The introduction of the 20% APR savings rate for HBD changed all of that. People stopped using it as a medium of exchange for goods and services and just started locking it up to earn the interest rate. I personally think the interest rate should be lowered to like 10-13%, it's shouldn't really compete with curation APR and also really only needs to compete with FIAT savings rates imho.
Because that's what a HBD savings account should do, replace FIAT Savings in terms of gains. Lower interest should help balance the spend/save equations a bit more.
Also having something to spend HBD on would be nice but I've yet to find anything that truly peaks my interest. Even Leo Premium doesn't do so to a great deal.
If these games we have on hive Sold EVERYTHING they did in HBD ONLY then perhaps we'd actually get somewhere. Cause then they can buy HIVE with HBD if that's the end currency they want and actually make some buy pressure.
But you know.. no one honestly gives this much thought. As part of the #spendhbd campaign we should also lobby games to sell packs and stuff for HBD only.
I think it's a little too early for that. We need to increase the money supply of HBD for the short term to help stabilize any future gains. We don't want an insane price jump for HBD like what happened with SBD... or do we? 🤔 😉 lol
Something like that wouldn't really happen as anything we do to make HBD more usable will always be a slow burn improvement it'd take time to see any tangible results.
The primary difference from back then is that HIVE and HBD can be converted both ways now.
We also have HBD stabilizer doing a great deal of work which could always be given a lot more liquidity if needed. There's also $100 of liquidity on the hive-engine dieselpool.
The system as it is now has many more levels of self stabilizing things available than when it was SBD.
