Before I proceed let me send a mid-week greeting to all my lovely friends in this Community and beyond. Hive learners have been a source of blessings to me in so many ways, at least I have improved so much in my writing. I use to think I will not be able to flow so much in words and writing but nah. My sincere greetings to all the moderators of this Noble Community who make sure all things work well here.

There are people who have taken defrauding people as a good job, they look for every way possible just to cause pain to people without thinking of the consequences that may come in between. The day I failed I the hands of scammers, I couldn't believe that I was already gone in the middle of the trap.

How It All Began

It was early 2016 while I was waiting for my national service this faithful morning while other occupants of my room already went for their days job because I was staying at the Nigerian Christian Corpers Fellowship family house, I was left alone and I received this call from a strange number, this man introduced himself as Mr Ben. Below is the outline of the discussion.
Mr Ben-Hello Deborah
Me- Hello, who is this
Mr Ben- I am Ben have you forgotten me, I am Ben
Me- Ok see, I discribed our Experience in school and he said yes

Gbam gbosh, I was gotten. He then told me that there is this contract he want us to handle. That is to supply this small indicator light that is on MTN mask..Kai. He asked me to climb the upstair so I can get to view the makes to understand what he meant, how ignorate I was I now said ok. It can be down. He proceeded that I should said some money for him to send those things so we can proceed. I told him I don't have any money, he said I should go and borrow from anywhere because we are going to be made after that. Ignorantly that was how I went out to look for money.

I met a friend then and asked him to borrow me some money that want to do something urgent with it, then I told him it 500 naira I need he said could afford #4,500. So the man said I should just send him as recharge card. Immediately I rushed to MTN office to get the airtime. Aah, I was used😭😭😭. Immediately I sent the money to this Mr Ben, the story line changed and he started abusing that I am a fool aaah💔💔💔, me fool? He said yes. I told him I was going to deal with him.

Immediately went back to remember I have a friend who is a Barrister and also a Police officer, so he told me to return to the MTN office so I can trace the position of the caller. When I went there I had to explain what happened to these the manager, so she told me that she can only see the details but if I need to gwt it I should come with a police order, the second option she gave me was that she can help me block the line because she saw the amount of airtime I spoke about in that line. So I told her to get the line block and my money was gone. When I also told my Police officer he told me to just forget it because I will spend so much in trying to recover the money more than I have spent. That was how this money just went.

Now, after this incidence I came to notice that over some years at about January or February this scammers will call me. Since I was once a victim I knew better. I can just decide to stay on the call to just waste their time and burn the airtime or I tell them to change form their evil ways or perish.

Lessons From The Insidence

After this Insidence I got to learn some strong lessons, the first is no matter how well I know you I don't give my heart so much to conversations on phone until we get some old details you can relate well with

Even if your voice sounds familiar, I get to ask who is speaking just to clear my doubts because I was beaten once but the mark remains

It is my decision not to allow myself to a victim of same circumstance twice.

Nowadays the way and manner of scamming is upgraded, what they do now is hack people's WhatsApp or Facebook then use it to ask for funds from friends of the victim. Just last month one of my friends WhatsApp was hacked, while trying to help her rectify the issue, I asked her if someone called her to said a six digit code she said yes and that after the call she noticed she could not access her WhatsApp any longer. Hear the new skim. Someone will call and tell you that there I a meeting in a group(he will mention one group you belong) and he want to send the meeting ID to you. When you accept he will say, a six digit code just entered your phone you should confirm and let him know. Now if you are ignorant and realize that number, your WhatsApp is gone. Now the only saviour you will have now is if you set up a two factor verification, they may ask you to give them the code now and if you do, your WhatsApp is gone. You will not have access to the WhatsApp until you report to WhatsApp and you wait for seven days.

My conversation with a scammer on Friday night

The application of knowledge brings power, now if you have not set up your two factor authenticator for idea whatapp or Facebook it is to your best interest to do it, so you will not be a victim. Now we know how they operate we should try not to have the experience ourselves.

It is a thing of joy to be part of this second edition for this week 85, also sharing my experience makes me happy too because at least I have gotten over it and hoping someone will learn from my own experience. See, being despirate for money has never helped anyone, rather it will bring more pain and disgrace at the long run. Hope for something great but do your best to work hard.

Stay Active and positive
