LOH #169: COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AND POVERTY ALLEVIATION ARE MY BEST KIND OF CHARITIES

Happy Sunday everyone, it's another episode of the weekly contest by the #ladiesofHive community. This week there are two prompts and I am going for the second question which is about charity and I relate perfectly with this topic. So stay back as I share my experience.

Charitable giving is a normal part of my budget. It is not always cash donations but it can be other resources like your time and talents as well. Name your favorite Charity and what makes it special to you?

The act of charity is a common virtue that over 50% of the world's population exhibit, not every individual can give out and everyone has their specific style to which day carry out charity. This voluntary act of giving can be done through the use of money, funds, resources or it can be an act of service, a dedication to particular cause. Charity covers a wide range of causes, for example, we can have charity on health, environmental charities, animal welfareism, poverty elevation schemes, human rights, culture and art preservation, disaster relief organizations, education, widows, orphans and so on.

Often times addressing humanitarian issues can be burdensome but when you have passion for charity you give your own to make sure that whatever you are fighting for becomes a reality of success. It is not farfetched that people have fought for others through charitable organizations or as they are called non-governmental organizations for instance the fight against discrimination against women the fight against child trafficking the fight against child hawkers on the street the fight against child bride in some States in Nigeria and so many more. It is never an easy task but it gives the feeling of accomplishment when this is achieved.

My favorite kind of charity is the poverty alleviation scheme and community development charities. This is so because, using my country Nigeria as a case study, people are suffering, it's so bad that in this contemporary world where we think that technology, education and all the good things of life would have gone round. Some people are still lacking so bad that they cannot afford some certain things of life. Through the community development kind of charity, the one I prefer most is the educational aspect where once in a while, I and some colleagues would visit some schools to pay outstanding school fees for students who cannot afford it. These are moetly public government schools where their school fees are not so high but parents can hardly feed themselves and the kids talk more of paying fees. While discussing with some of the students we discovered that in the village, these people are basically farmers that depend on their small portion of land to farm cassava, yam, tomatoes, vegetables and some Petty crops that can help sustain the family. Whatever they get sell at the market is not enough to cater for their needs.

Other times when we can't pay fees, we use funds gathered to get educational resources for the students. Then we sort out those who have bad school Sandals, no books textbooks, torn uniforms and so on. when we collect the data we go to town we contact tailors that can produce a large number of school uniforms for a specific period, we buy school sandals in bulk, packs of books and stationeries.

From the foregoing these are my favorite kind of charities that I and some friends do carry out at least once a year or once every two years. So the kind of charity I involve myself with requires resources, funds and time but for the funds we source for them by asking generous givers to support our cause or our mission.
