Hello ladies, trust the day is going on well, for this week's entry, I would be talking about women that has made history in my country Nigeria.

which woman in the history of your country do you identify, and why?

In our contemporary world, the 21st century is now an open space where women can thrive and succeed in careers they deem fit. Women have and are holding great positions that used to be male dominated before, but now women are vice chancellor ls, director Generals, PhD holders, chartered accountants, principals, barristers, judges, activists, politicians, councilors, chairman, senators, ministers, we even get to contest for governorship and presidential positions.

I admire women that break barriers that has to do with cultural heritage, education and basically all spheres of life. No doubt one woman cannot achieve it all but with support all women can achieve great and extraordinary levels.

A woman I admire in history has to be the delectable Dr. Grace Alele Williams and NGOZI OKONJO-IWEALA. These women have in one way inspired me and proven that women can be anything they want to be if we put in the effort. Dr Grace was the first female vice chancellor in Nigeria and was also the first woman to achieve a PhD degree in Nigeria in mathematics, a course considered to be very difficult. There are many women in academics this days who have attained greater heights, women now get academic grants to do researches, they are chosen for fully funded fellowship abroad, we have women pilots, women in politics who are making a difference.

Another woman in history who I totally admire and identify with is NGOZI OKONJO-IWEALA, the present Director-General of the World Trade Organization, and it is worthy to note that she is the first woman and the first African to attain that post. As a n economist, she has work in several aspect of the federal government, she also worked at the world bank. There are many qualities she possesses that has made girls and even women try to identify with her and few include:

  • A woman of culture: there is one thing about some Africans when they travel abroad, they try to change their accents to the western style and also the mode of dressing entirely. But in the case of NGOZI, she has proven that no matter where, the culture of Nigeria is rich and beautiful. This is why we see her wearing the African prints in buba and wrapper or skirt and blouse, she also has a unique way of tying her head tie. Also, she speaks African, didn't change her identity and yet she controls the world trade organization.

  • Educational achievement: Mrs NGOZI is well read. She has a bachelors degree, a master degree, two PhD degrees and many more like honorary degrees and leadership certificates. She also several awards that she has received over the year for been hardworking, intelligent and outstanding. One time she was named Forbes African of the year.

  • A SUPPORTER OF WOMEN'S GROWTH: One time I watched her interview and she mentioned how she is in Great support of the girl child education, that every girl must attain a level of education. She believes in investing in women, the girl child. She advocates for the enhancement of women via trading, businesses, jobs and so on.

Oh wao... Didn't even realize I had typed much but this is what happens when you admire a person's personality, growth and achievements. She has made history, I rember when she was appoint as the director General of WTO, she got much accolades from Nigerians, even then we forgot about tribalism and were proud of her. She was used as a role model to counsel the young ladies that you don't have to dress I decently before you can achieve success.

Thanks you for reading my blog.
