America's Oldest Brewery

Going a little bit out of the box here on #beersaturday with a non-North Carolina beer. Rather, I am having a beer brewed in America's oldest brewery.

The story of America's oldest brewery begins, as with all good beer stories tend to begin, in Germany. To be more specific, this particular story begins in the Kingdom of Wurttemberg and the birth of David Jungling in the year 1808.

David became a brewer and emigrated to the United States and set up shop in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. His descendants have been brewing beer in Pottsville ever since. The last name was "Anglicized" to Yuengling.

Once again, all the cool stuff you can learn from a beer label. As I often say, scratch a beer and find a German.

BEER NAME: Traditional Lager
STYLE: Lager
ABV: 4.5%
BREWER: Yuengling, Pottsville, Pennsylvania
APPEARANCE: deep amber. pours with small head and clear
AROMA: caramelized malts
TASTE: well balanced with hops slightly bitter contrast with sweet malts
MOUTHFEEL: medium body low carbonation and clean finish

Overall, not bad for America's Oldest Brewery. Make a quality product at a reasonable price and stay in business for almost 200 years.

TRIVIA TIME:

I have a #beersaturday tradition of asking a trivia question. The first person to answer correctly in the comments wins a BEER TOKEN.

Question: Name the largest city in Wurttemberg.

Good luck and I will see y'all next #beersaturday.

Looks like a great German Lager!😊
Being born and raised in the German beer brewing town of Cincinnati, I can remember one section of downtown with brewery after brewery!😊
Bavarian brewery was producing non alcoholic beer during prohibition, and then when it was repealed, they had a market edge!😇
