So this topic really brought memories, but before I start I'd love to say a big thank you to inleo front end for bringing this up and also their choice of beautiful and relatable topics this month of May, I hope to do justice to the topics i can 😊.

The story I am about to tell you happened 16 years ago but it's very fresh in my memory as if it was yesterday.
It happened during the Christmas holiday, I was in ss3, it was on the 22nd day of December 2008 I was 15 years old while my younger sister was 14 years old she was in ss2.

Now the story in detail. That day happened to be my first day of seeing my period and so the joy of being a young woman was visible even for the blind to see. Unaware to me that it will come with pains, yes abdominal pains🥺🥺🤦🤦, some people call it cramps, so I had mixed feelings that day, that of joy that I am finally menstruating and welcomed to the women folk and that of pain that I had discomfort because of it.
Mom had designated different duties for I and my younger sister and she went to sleep but we were not aware that she was inside.

Few minutes after my mom had left us, we were all doing our duties, mine was to wash clothes and my sister's duty was to fetch water.
While washing I asked her to leave hers and come help me, she refused, I had to remind her that I was older than her and that I am now a woman 😜, funny right?
Yeah it should, the reasons for my actions were kind of weird but you don't have to blame me afterall. So prior to that day, (that is before the school came to the close of first term), our biology teacher was teaching about the female reproductive organs, She made mention of signs of puberty and menstruation was one out of the many signs she mentioned that we need to experience as a young teenager.
So she popped the question Is there anyone in this class that is not seeing her period ? The class went mute not until one of my friends betrayed me and she said everyone is menstruating except Glory Edoho , Ah! I was so ashamed, my biology teacher told me not to feel bad but rather I should expect it soon, she furthered educated me that most young girls see theirs late and that our body systems differs, despite her consolation and all the sermons preached by her I still felt bad and betrayed.
I felt so bad that I had to pray about it, and God finally answered me, so with this you would see the reason behind my actions😜😜, like i wanted letting everyone know that i was now a full blown woman, I couldn't wait for the school to resume so that I could share my good news😁😁. Funny enough it was same me that this little girl wanted to disrespect. To me I felt I have entered womanhood before her and so I demanded some respect(weird reason indeed 🤦🤦)

Now fast forward to what happened that day, so after telling her to help me and she bluntly refused, one thing led to another and we started fighting,(I don't know where I got the strength from knowing that i was in pains, till today I wouldn't know what fueled my strength) I wouldn't want to agree that she beat me, never, we both beat each other to stuppor 😜🤦🤦🤦

My eldest sister came back from the market to meet us fighting right into the sugarcane plantation, she couldn't believe her eyes knowing the good home training we all had, she shouted on us and asked where our mother was, we couldn't give an accurate answer, as she was about asking the next question my mom opened the backyard door, she was confused what really happened, she called us in and asksd what really happened that would make us fight that way, after the whole explanation, Ah! My mother beat us, now here is how she divided the Stokes, she gave my sister 24 strokes of Cane, 12 strokes for fighting with and another 12 strokes for evening attempting to fight her eldest sister which was me, all through the beatings my sister never shed any drop of tears but when it was my turn ah! I cried out so loud, mind you mine was 12 strokes but it was 12 strokes indeed. She asked us both to naked ourselves and she dealt with us, I was just wearing pant she flooged me till my sanitary pad cut into little pieces. That beating was a huge turn around in our lives both.

Till today I and my sister can Never ever ever ever fight, we could exchange words after that incident but fighting, Nah!! was out of the picture.
To make it even much easier now if we have misunderstanding we sit to dialogue and air out our mind respecting each other feelings.
That beating was all in one 🤦🤦🤦.

This first hand experience is something I will never forget.

I hope you enjoyed my read

You both look like twins. I can’t even tell who is older and who is younger. That was quite the lesson your mother gave you both

African parents and cane are 5 and 6. If dialogue won't work, the cane will. You both are beautiful.
