Taste Of Syracuse - Yearly Event

(Edited)

Hello Everyone,

In Syracuse New York there is a yearly event called Taste Of Syracuse, where local food vendors sell samples of their specialty items as low as one dollar, as well as full course meals costing upwards of twenty times that price.

There's local bands performing music for live entertainment, and even a race for local athletes to participate in.

The Taste Of Syracuse has a little bit of everything and makes for a nice day of enjoyment, whether you're munching down on the huge variety of available foods, or just strolling around enjoying the scenery and entertainment.

I did a little of both, during both days of the event, June 2nd, and June 3rd of 2023.

Let's have a look at some of the photos I captured.

Here's a gyro I tried from a local vendor Pita Dream.

I ate almost half of it before thinking to take a photograph.

I put the experience first and foremost, and I've just never been one to be thinking about photographs when I'm out enjoying myself, so some of these are just random click moments where food is half eaten.

This was one of the tastiest things I had over the two day event.

Both days were full sun, and water was being given out for free, which I think was a wise choice from the organizers.

There were plenty of beer stands around, and plenty of people drinking.

I was there during earlier hours, and didn't see anything happening from overindulgence, but routinely saw police helping people who became unable to walk from overindulgence.

The police presence was high for that matter, but they didn't maintain an over-imposing presence and really did not bother anyone in a harassing way.

I think that's really cool, especially since police have garnered some poor opinions from the public over the past couple of years due to the political environment of the world.

Regarding the high amounts of beer and nothing "plant based wellness", I was a little disappointed in that regard.. I hope to see a shift from beer stands to edible canna stands (or why not both?) in the future, and really that makes more sense for a food event.. A dehydration intoxication drink is not a good choice in full sun in my opinion, but some people enjoy indulging in alcohol and handle their drinks responsibly, which was the case during this event.

This photo exemplifies what I mean, the general atmosphere was undeniably positive, and images like the one seen above were commonplace, with lots of hugs and happiness going around!

The photo above I snipped down, because when I took it I didn't notice the hugs.

I thought that was pretty cool, it's always nice to see people enjoying themselves with others.

The event circled around the city block of Clinton Square and stayed packed with people every hour I was there. Three pm in the afternoon seemed to be the busiest time.

The bands that played were all really good. My only gripe is the audience wasn't as into it as a music lover would have hoped for.

Some of the bands noticed sparse clapping and reverberated their disappointments in subtle ways that only a musician would probably pick up on.

They all rocked out regardless and gave nods to guys like me that they knew appreciated their talent.

Of course futuremind likes his weed and I routinely would go into the cuts puffing down joints at random times.

It's legal in New York now, and plenty of police saw me smoking and coughing and didn't say a word about it.

It was cool there there was no over-policing and they let people do "publicly unacceptable" things in the shadows.

I was lucky to find a few nice areas to take photos like this one above.

At this point I knew I would make a post out of the experience, and I really hope you've all enjoyed a taste of the Taste Of Syracuse.

This kind of events should be beneficial because the way we all live in trouble today, so two days a person can enjoy life in a good way, the way we see that food It's also a lot of fun and people are having a lot of fun with each other as we can see there's a lot of rush in front you've captured the pictures very well. There is definitely a problem due to the heat because it is very hot here in Pakistan these days. Your looks stunning man.

Thank you for the kind words bro.
I agree very much, humanity is going through negative turmoil, and social gatherings helps us reconnect with our nature and connection with one another.

Thanks man,
I'm a big food lover too, and think it's a good idea to go to social events like this.
Especially for those of us prone to self isolation.
Thanks again for your help with figuring out which community to post in and for your moral support brother.

What a nice change and surprise that you are reporting on an outdoor event. Me thanks.
I'm right there with you when it comes to people meeting outside and hugging and having a good time together.

The bands that played were all really good. My only gripe is the audience wasn't as into it as a music lover would have hoped for.

Oh. I know that one! I'm always amazed at how you can NOT go with the music. Here in Germany, people often need a bit of booze before they can move and appreciate the music.

How nice that you have set the bad image of the police straight a bit. But the world remains as it is, the good guys definitely need the bad guys. And since there are never enough bad guys, you have to make some. LOL ;)

Thank you for the kind words @erh.germany!

My blog transformed into mostly indoor gardening content around the time we met I think, prior to that my blog was a plethora of different things, but never attending events like this. Perhaps I will make a habit out of it and get back to other forms of blogging as well.

Oh. I know that one! I'm always amazed at how you can NOT go with the music. Here in Germany, people often need a bit of booze before they can move and appreciate the music.

One of the singers kept sarcastically saying everyone needed to get drunk and after a few songs was like "gosh I think I need to get drunk" lol, the audience was not very lively and the band was very talented. They seemed perplexed and were laughing about it. You could say they took it well due to knowing how good they are and just weren't in the environment they're used to.

Thank you for picking up on that and commenting about it. Yes I think it's important to give credit where it is due, and throughout my life dealing with police (quite a bit in my earlier adult years), I always noticed that the majority of them seemed to be decent. Only a few bad apples here and there.

Certainly the media likes to amplify things for propagation of more fear and public unease. So much could be said on the dynamics of it all.

It's always a pleasure to see you my friend, thank you for stopping by and checking out my little excursion. :)

Man, in my mind you were living in some cabin on the mountains of Oregon. I thought you were lumberjack or fire lookout. Goes to show, never make assumptions based on weed and masterful beards. :)

That's interesting because it's my dream to one day get out of the congested city of Syracuse and live in the woods.
There are areas like that in New York. Contrary to popular belief this place has much more wilderness and mountainous regions than one might guess.
Thank you for the kind words man, in my mind I'm a bit of a lumberjack and have cut some wood in my day. In fact I was just stacking wood for my fireplace before this comment :D

Living in the woods sounds great to put some bush-crafting skills into practice. There's a lot of that going in the Pacific Northwest. Fishing in nearby creeks. That'd be awesome. I'm too scared bears to do it myself, but I've come across some sights that are astonishing and make me wish I was a woodsman.

When you say as low as one dollar, my mind goes multiply that by 4.5 to my currency 🤣 I need to stop thinnoing thay way. Still, a dollar cant buy shit nowadays. And its cool they give water for free too. Our malaysia water is actually quite cheap, but when come to a time when people desperately needed water, such as food fair event like this, the price spike to oblivion 🤣

The way how people pay absolutely no attention to the stage, is not becauze they didnt produce good muzik. More like due to focusing too much on the food. Your pita looks super yummy compare to the music i cannot hear 🤣

Looks like a very fun event. Wish i am there!

I often forget about conversion rates and such, or even think of other currencies aside from crypto. Wouldn't it be strange if USD disappears for CBDC central bank digital currencies?

Then you won't have to think about the dollar anymore lol.

I thought it was pretty cool about the free bottled waters. I should have snapped a photo of one but didn't think to, and furthermore homeless were periodically coming by and scouring trashcans to collect up the empties, and doing so in a way that didn't disrupt the public event, so no one cared and the police didn't bother them. I thought that was cool too.

That's a really good point lol, and the event was more for food than anything of course. They just happened to have above average rock bands that were playing classic hits like crazy. The band above played Sympathy For The Devil , The Rolling Stones. They rocked that song so hard and loud that the entire city probably heard it lol.
That band was only a warm up, there was heavy metal bands afterwards with Marshall full stack amplifiers bro... I guess the organizers just didn't care that this was a family food event 😂

I'll have to try to be there next year! I have never attended this I don't think. My family hardly ever went to Syracuse, except to buy feta cheese now and then. And the airport.

I'm glad you made a post of it. YOu've made it look like a lovely day, and a good reason to make a little drive to the big city nearby.

Thank you @owasco!
Both days of the event were lovely, the second day was better for me and I stayed much longer.

There's a few events like this throughout the season, as well as farmers markets. I'm trying to be more active and social this summer and so it's pretty cool to have close access to these things.

I hope you'll make a trip here this year. I'll keep you posted with the cannabis grow too, should be late July / early August I'll have a nice harvest, as long as everything continues going good with the current grow. That post is coming soon, maybe today.
