Winners of the Post of the Month, Compliment of the Month, and Non-Compliment Comment of the Month on the FreeCompliments Community – January 2024!

Welcome to January’s iteration of the FreeCompliments Community’s contests for Post of the Month, Compliment of the Month, and Non-Compliment Comment of the Month! The goal of this contest is to encourage the creation of quality content, both long-form and short-form, for the betterment of the community and its members.

The winner of the Post of the Month and Compliment of the Month will win 5 HSBI + 1000 Ecency Points, and runner-ups of these plus the Non-Compliment Comment of the Month will win 3 HSBI + 500 Ecency Points.

Additionally, @raymondspeaks announced that “Monthly contest winners will also get a BIG fat vote from @brofi on their latest post” – how exciting!

Thank you to everyone who voted! Curation trails were easy to find, double votes were clarified, our friendly @dustbunny was identified, and self-votes (which actually did not happen this month) were not counted. There were less votes this month and, particularly for posts, this resulted in a 4 way tie which I broke, plus a tie for compliment runner-up; otherwise, everything was based solely on number of unique votes.

In this post, he describes the importance of taking accountability for yourself in making changes, acknowledging that no matter how much someone tries to help another, it’s ultimately up to the person being helped to actively do what’s needed to improve their situation. It’s an essential life lesson which everyone must learn. That’s why this post is a deserving winner of Post of the Month.

From @vincentnijman, this compliment directly provides empathy and shared experiences with the difficulty of wearing masks while dealing with chronic lung conditions (as a doctor without lung conditions, I can attest to how annoying it can be to wear them… even we’re not doing it as often any longer!). The connection and understanding renders it as our winner of Compliment of the Month.

From @stortebeker, this compliment reminds us of the love that dogs can bring to their owners, and is made all the sweeter by the fact that the original post reminded him of a late pet that was clearly beloved. Non-Compliment Comment of the Month

While our primary focus is on compliments, free speech and discussion is also a tremendous focus in this community. Not all conversations require compliments or agreements, but rather respectful discussion, listening, and exchanges of ideas. Thus, I believe it is essential to reward dialogues which are done in such a manner. This is a tenet of the stringent free speech principle we exercise, in a manner that we would love to see implemented in all forms of communication.

This month, it’s a comment by @maryene, displaying her own efforts towards fitness while espousing the importance of fitness. She practices what she preaches! It’s a wonderful comment, and I hope that she participates in some Fitness Friday Posts as well, since she’s clearly cut out for these challenges. At any rate, this great comment has in fact earned more votes than all other comments and posts this month, so congratulations on winning Non-Compliment Comment of the Month!
