My Diet Rationale #236: Why I Think Before I Eat
Happy new week to all the amazing women on Hive! I call you all "women" not just as a title, but because the topics we often share here are deeply connected to our lives , they shape us, inspire us, and sometimes challenge us.
I have been a part as well.
Today, I’d love to talk about something close to my heart , my food combination (or “food combo” as I call it).
Over time, I’ve learned something important about food:
Instead of focusing only on what I’m eating , like the portion, texture, or appearance. it’s better to ask, "What does this meal do for my body at the end of the day?"
As women, our bodies are naturally sensitive. The kind of food we eat doesn’t just fill our stomachs , it affects our skin, energy, emotions, and even our menstrual cycles. A poor diet shows quickly maybe in fatigue, skin breakouts, bloating, or even mood swings.
So, here’s what I’ve learned and would love to share:
It’s not just about eating food that looks good, but about building meals that help us feel good.

That means I now aim for balance. I try to combine my meals in a way that gives me the right nutrients, not just what I crave. Yes, it’s hard sometimes, especially with tempting delicacies, but trust me, your body will thank you later.
As regards the contest on whether I belong to the healthy team of meal lovers or the junk food team, I’d say I try to balance both. I usually go for healthy meals about four days a week, and then allow myself a little junk food for one or two days.
Honestly, junk food has its own convenience. It’s cheap, easy to get, and can serve as a quick fix especially on busy days. But the truth is, if your diet is made up of 80% junk and only 20% healthy meals, it eventually starts to show on your skin. I’ve experienced it firsthand.
This was me when I did junks almost seven days per week.
There was a time I didn’t pay much attention to my eating habits. As a busy mum juggling work and taking care of the kids, I often resorted to junk food just to save time. I found myself eating mostly junk throughout the week. It was easier, yes but it reflected poorly on both my skin and overall appearance.
But the moment I became more intentional and began combining healthy veggies, fruits, good carbs, and proteins in my daily meals, I started to see the difference. Not only did I feel better, but my skin began to glow and my energy levels improved.
I usually picture the end result of my meals before eating. For example, I might take carbohydrates in the morning, protein-rich meals at noon, and healthy vegetables in the evening, with fruits in between to keep things balanced.
Thanks for reading to this point. I appreciate the time you have spent on my blog. Happy day to you!
