Ade, The Lumberjack

Ade, a lumberjack, happy with his sale hums as he counts the profit he had made from the woods. "A gain for another week" he says, happy to have enough money to put in his savings for his bride's arrival. He lived in a small cottage in the outskirts of a small town in the hills of Bangladesh and settled there farming and cutting down woods for a business. What He desired most was his peace and lived with his daily routine that revolved around his business.

One fateful morning he had gone to fetch some wood when the news of his bride being kidnapped by the barbarians got to him.

"You'll need to go save her from their hands" the messenger told him. On Ade's neck were still scars he suffered from the hands of the barbarians. The experience still remained a nightmare to him and he wasn't ready to suffer another.

"I can't. If luck shines on her, the barbarians will let her go before sunset," he said while still cutting the wood.

His response reached his dad and he traveled to come meet with him.

"It's a time of trial and you need to prove your love for her even more now" he said to Ade.

"I still have scars I suffered from the barbarians, since that very night, I never slept until a few years ago. I can't risk this peace, my survival isn't assured." He responded.

"I think it's high time you paid them for every scar on your skin. It's the only way to erase the anger and hurt the scar still brings". He held Ade by his hands, "I've arranged for you troop, you're not going alone"

Ade and the troop built ships and filled it up with weapons. As they sail across the sea, Ade reminisce on the words his dad told him back in the cottage. Suddenly , He became furious, and his face became hot red. All He wanted at that moment was to avenge for all the days he stayed awake tormented by the experience, he wanted to pay them back with scars and most especially fight for Semiramis' love. Just when they sailed to the middle of the sea, a storm arose that smashed their ship and caused a shipwreck to one of their ships. They pulled their ships to the shore to rest when the cannibals attacked them, killing some of the men and stealing away some food.

Ade looked at the number of the armies left and the resources available and felt discouraged. He knew the barbarians were more than a thousand in their caves but he had less than 100 armies with him. The fear of losing everything bothered him. But looking at the scars only made him furious, at this point he was ready to die but with an honor that he fought for a good cause. The next morning they packed their resources and sailed to the barbarian cave, a place where would decide his fate. They arrived at a time the barbarians wine and dine, celebrating the ruins they've made in cities. They ambushed them and slaughtered every one of them, but just before he could celebrate his victory Ade checked the camp and there was no sign of Semiramis. He asked one of the captives and he was told Semiramis was sold to the king of Cyrus as a mistress and slave.

It seemed like a dead end but his soldiers weren't discouraged.

"Master, we've come this far, we can't go back without her," they said. Their words encouraged him and they sailed further.

"We might catch up with them before they get to the walls of the city" one of the soldiers said as he told them to lend horses rather than sailing round. They stopped at a small village where they got some horses and pursued after them. Just as the soldier had predicted they caught a glimpse of them from afar and rode faster. As the Cyprians saw them coming, they set on their horses and attacked. The sound of Clashing of swords filled the atmosphere, blood of the fallen flowed on the bald land, and the leader of the troops was brought down by Ade's arrow. Victory at last Ade thought, relieved of the burden and proud he had taken on a challenge that had been his greatest fear.

They traveled back with Semiramis and Ade lived again with no burden nor hurt from the scars and he was no longer afraid of war.

Scars are not only reminders of our past they can also be the reason for which we break out of certain bondage. Our fears might look so big, but when we decided to face them, we will realize that they were not really as big as we thought. Ade took the bold step and it earned him his happiness back, what a victory

The best way one could ever feel fulfilled in this life is to face your face and conquer it.

This is a very nice story.

I honestly don’t blame Ade for being scared and refusing to go at first and I admire his courage for going to save his bride to be. Ade the unlikely hero.

Wow! This was imaginitive! A multitude of setbacks overcome, and eventually Semiramis is rescued. Your hero is a reluctant one indeed, but soon realises what is important to him. You followed the Hero's Journey nicely. I hope you enjoyed the challenged. thank you for writing for dreem-wotw. !LUV !Hug !PIZZA
