How I Manage My Physical and Mental Health During Sensitive Times ll Contest LOH #155.

Monthly Menstruation
I've always had an irregular cycle and to an extent I thought it was normal to have the dates changing and the flow changing from heavy to light every time. I Never spoke to anyone about it as I felt that's what every other person goes through.

I will start by listing a few problems I have had during the years before mentioning how I got through all of them respectively and I hope it helps anyone going through the same in one way or another.

I was 11 or 12 when I got my period and it felt awfully uncomfortable, in a way my body was changing not in one way but different ways all at the same time. The discomfort, the cravings, the dizziness, the nausea, the cramps and sore breasts. Fast forward to years after and it was like I was starting over again. The breakouts came, the mood swings, the dizziness intensified, internal heat that came with very visible rashes, high level of blood loss after every cycle and I was irritated by everything especially when I was touched, more like my normal feeling of disgust was heightened. I always felt sad and lonely during my period even when I was surrounded by a lot of people.

Eventually I talked to someone about how I felt during these times and how it was starting to take a toll on my physical appearance and my day to day relations with people and she recommended a few things I should take and also stay away from during my cycle so it doesn't hurt so bad or react on my skin.

For the discomfort: she said it was totally normal and if it ever got unbearable painkillers would help.
The dizziness: Avoid stressful activities and rest as much as you can.
The nausea: Eating spicy food.
The cramps: Staying away from sugary foods no matter the quantity.
The breakouts :Maintaining good hygiene.
Mood swings: avoid the things that make you unhappy and try out new things to keep your head occupied.
Internal heat: taking vitamin C, B complex, vitamin B2, folic acid and also staying away from heat and activities that make you sweat.
Blood loss: take blood supplements after your period so you can maintain a healthy blood level.
The irritation:I avoid dirty places and environments with lots of people.

In the end after applying all these I got better and the reactions and irritations reduced. Although I haven’t fully gotten a hang of it at the moment, but I can definitely say it’s way better than it used to be.

I hope this helps you with what you face during your period.

Sugar is a big time culprit during these times. I have observed that cutting down sugar in these days helps a lot in balancing the hormones and stress of this period.
