Compared to other countries, what is the cost of living in your country?

How are the prices of goods and services compared to other countries?

      The first thing I thought when I saw the topic for today was: how to know the exact current prices of another country. I checked my WhatsApp looking for a contact in Latin America who did not live here in Venezuela. In this case, I called my cousin from Colombia. We hadn't spoken for a while. He was born here in Venezuela, but left with his dad when he was still a kid.

       I asked him the prices of things there, and he gave me what he knew in Colombian pesos, so I used a converter to find out how much that would be in dollars.

That, because here in Venezuela they use the dollar a lot, both as a reference to sell in bolivars, as well as in physical terms. In my case, as I was a cashier in several places, I learned to charge with different payment methods, including dollars and euros.

      Here is a table of some products, goods or services that we mentioned in the conversation and their price, in dollars, in both countries.

Will your income give you more or less in those countries? If you had the opportunity,

would you move there?

      My current income would not be enough to cover the basic expenses needed, such as housing, water and electricity. Where I am living, I don't pay for any of those things, since I am taking care of a house. It would be a very hard blow in an economic sense to have to start paying for it.

      If I had the opportunity to go to Colombia, for example, to visit for a week, I would go. But moving is a radical decision that I would not take unless I am sure that I will have a steady job to cover all the expenses, and have some savings in case things go wrong, to return without major complications.

     Lo primero que pensé al ver el tema para hoy fue: Cómo saber los precios actuales exactos de otro país. Revisé en mi WhatsApp en busca de algún contacto de Latinoamérica que no viviera aquí en Venezuela. En este caso, llamé a mi primo de Colombia. Tenía un tiempo que no hablábamos. El nació aquí en Venezuela, pero se fue con su papá para allá cuando todavía era un niño.

     Le pregunté los precios de las cosas allá, y me dió los que se sabía en pesos colombianos, por lo cual utilicé un conversor para saber cuánto sería eso en dólares.

     Eso, porque aquí en Venezuela se maneja mucho el dólar, tanto como referencia para comercializar en bolívares, como en físico. En mi caso, como fue cajera en varios sitios, aprendí a cobrar con diferentes métodos de pago, entre ellos en dólares y euros.

     Aquí les pongo una tabla sobre algunos productos, bienes o servicios que mencionamos en la conversación y su precio, en dólares, en ambos países.

     Mis ingresos actuales no serían suficientes para cubrir los gastos básicos necesario, como vivienda, agua y luz. En el lugar que estoy viviendo, no pago ninguna de esas cosas, ya que estoy cuidando una casa. Sería un golpe muy duro en sentido económico tener que empezar a pagar por ello.

     Si tuviera la oportunidad ir a Colombia, por ejemplo, de visita una semana, iría. Pero mudarme es una decisión radical que no tomaría a menos que esté segura de que dispondré de un trabajo constante para cubrir todos los gastos, y tener unos ahorros por si las cosas salen mal, devolverme sin mayores complicaciones.
