Almost November: Time for HiveBloPoMo Again...?

Although I have not seen a formal announcement yet, we have almost reached November, and that means it's time for "Hive Blog Posting Mont," or HiveBloPoMo, for short... and for tagging purposes.

This is an event done much in the style of the worldwide NaNoWriMo challenge for writers which runs every November. In the case of Hive, participants are challenged to create a blog post here in our community for every day during the month of November.

Historically, this particular challenge has been coordinated by @traciyork, best known (perhaps) as the driving force behind HPUD — Hive Power Up Day. There's even a special group set up for this event, used by participants from from season to season.

Anyway, I have been contemplating whether I should throw my hat in the ring again and try it one more time. So far, I have mostly been waiting to see if it's even on this year.

Not So Easy...

Over the years, I've tried the NaNoWriMo challenge on a number of occasions (about 10?) and I never managed to finish that. I'm just not really a writer of novels, I guess! A couple of times I tried a subsequent derivative that is dedicated to nonfiction, but didn't really fare any better.

I have also tried the Hive version several times, both here on our current version of Hive as well as back on the "Hive 1.0," version where many of us got our start, and I did actually manage to put up "a post a day" one year so I can claim success once, but I have failed far more times than that!

I do believe it's a really good writing exercise, and it's also a good exercise in discipline as a writer and blogger... which is something I rather lack.

What makes it particularly challenging for me is not only that we have to navigate the Thanksgiving Holiday here in the US (when writing is FAR from my mind!), but also the fact that this time of the year Mrs. Denmarkguy (aka @cosmictriage) and I tend to attend arts and crafts fairs with our creative endeavors and there's very little energy to sit down and create a serious blog post when you were up at 6:00 a.m. to set up a vendor booth at an event and then talking to the public all day before coming back and crashing into bed before getting up early the next day and doing it all again.

Said he, creating the world's longest run-on sentence!

What's nice about the Hive version of this particular event is the fact that in the past Traci has usually created a monthly schedule with "suggested topics" for each day, good for those who aren't necessarily able to think of a bunch of new topics of their own. Although I'm not particularly fond of using "writing prompts," the one year where I did succeed I did end up using those prompts about four or five times and that's part of what helped me get through!

Anyway, still have a couple of days to go, but I thought I would still make this semi-preliminary announcement in case there are other people out there who are dedicated bloggers and who might find this an interesting challenge!

And yes, I know some of you are going to be reading this and — as regulars to these pages — are going to think I'm a prolific blogger and this would be a cinch... but in truth I am not as prolific as you might think! In all the time I have been here I have only managed to earn the "blog every day of the month" badge three times in almost 7 years!

Thanks for stopping by and have a great remainder of your week!

Hmm, intriguing. I have feeling that you half-volunteered to kick of the challenge for this year :9 Since there's not a lot of action in the community ...

Ps: is writing posts in advance and publishing them on a schedule considered cheating? I know that on some days in November if will be almost impossible for me to write anything.
