Mike Tyson's return to the ring lasted less than a round OnThisDay in 1995 as he halted the enthusiastic but inexperienced Peter McNeeley after only 1 minute 29 seconds and following a second knockdown.

McNeeley's manager, Vinny Vecchione, jumped into the ring at the MGM Grand to halt the action which led to the disqualification by the referee, Mills Lane.

"I came ready to fight,” 29-year-old Tyson said. "I didn't think I hit him hard, but he fell. I was surprised that his corner ran in and stopped it after the second knockdown.”

It was more than four years since Tyson lost his crown, just over three years since he went to prison after a rape conviction, eight years since he became a champion.

I remember this fight and recall how disappointed I was that McNeeley was all talk, no action. I think this walkover fight gave Tyson a false sense of superiority that lead him to his own downfall later on.
