What are some current topics that people are talking about in your country or city?

In order to get to know a place better, it helps to know what people are talking about. Is there any recent social phenomena or generation gap, social issue or large event coming up? Was there a protest or a scandal? A big sports game? A popular movie or a song that no one can escape? Some kind of tragic incident or act of kindness, popular restaurant or fashion trend?

All of these are fair game. Whatever it is, give as much detail as you can in a thread and a comment or two.

Feel free to make as many threads as you want.
