Valentine's day has always been associated with romance or at least that was what I grew up to believe.

The funniest part is that that's not the theme. It is surprising that most people do not know the origin of Valentine's day celebration and just indulge in romance. It's simply a day to show love to people in anyway you can.

It began as a Christian feast day to honor a matyr, St. Valentine for his sacrifice to the christiandom. I don't know how it came up be, but people started celebrating it as a day for lovers and partners to express their love for one another. It's quite sad that few people only remember to celebrate St. Valentine himself on this day.

It would have been cool to celebrate Valentine's day with your partners, and also show love to everyone you can and every around you.

The only problem is that there are hypocritical people everywhere. People that are currently beefing their neighbors, bearing grudges against others, not celebrating wins and the most surprising one? Spouses that have become enemies in the house all put up a front to celebrate Valentine. Don't just take my word for it, it's all over the internet. Many people have updated their social media platforms preaching the theme of valentine. Hypocritical much??? For me, it is.

By the way, I'm not judging anyone, but since that day is about celebrating love, why do some people find it difficult to spread love around? It's not that hard to spread love really, giving alms is an act of spreading love, relating well with your neighbors and everyone is another way to spread love, cheering up people's wins is also another way to spread love. Treating one's workers well and not maltreating hired help is another beautiful way to show love.

Many people have been updating their statuses about the approach of Valentine's day, and the acts of spreading love around. How about you practice what you teach? Make up with that neighbor, give alms to beggars, don't be stingy, because according to you, you worked hard for your money. How many mansions have you built since you cultivated the habit of being stingy? Do you even have cars or investments? A little kind gesture here and there wouldn't drain you, have a nice word for everyone all the time, don't be an online troll and don't ever mistreat people.

I certainly can't dictate to people how to spend their money, but rather than buying those expensive gifts, how about you spread love to the less privileged by giving gifts out?

Why not just show love to everyone around you by doing something extra nice for them? How about you lend a helping hand to people in need? How about you help elderly people whenever they need it?

Show you care, turn up for family and friends when they need you, give moral support without waiting for them to ask.

Not to chase clout or anything, but I ensure I show how much I care about the less privileged by cooking something real special whenever I could afford it, val or no val, celebrations or not.

The happiness on their faces is all the thanks I ever need. Most of these people have been abandoned by family or they don't even have any. They live life each day believing no one cares about them. It's up to people like us to show that they matter.

Even the tiniest amount of goodwill goes a long way, showing you care isn't only possible by doing it financially, there are so many ways to show you care without giving financial support. There's the emotional, physical and mental support. Lend a listening ear, give genuine advice, try as much as possible to make time for people that matter and always wear a smile on your face.

Don't wait till valentine's day or any other day of celebration before being nice. Everyday is valentine for me cause everyday is always a good one to express love.

A lot of people doesn't even know the origin of the day all because of their lustful desires.

Showing love to one another should be a daily thing and it must be unbiased and in truthfulness.

Thanks for reminding us of the true meaning of Valentine's Day and who is being celebrated. I had totally forgotten about the real story behind Valentine. It's really funny how we only see it as a day for couples to celebrate each other.

As you said, love is not just between couples alone; it extends to family, friends, colleagues, neighbors, etc. Love shouldn’t be perceived only during celebrations. We should always strive to express love by being there for people in need, giving alms to others, and making them happy in whatever way we can. Love should coexist among humans.
