THE GAME OF POLITICS AND MY TAKE

I disliked watching the news when I was younger. To a going child like myself, then, it was boring. There was the 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. newshour on the local channel daily and my parents(my mum, i guess, was influenced by my dad) would always try not to miss out.

It was always an annoyingly long hour but there was little that i could do to make them change the channel as they always promised to let me have the TV to myself when Once the time had been up. So I just sat there moping and halfheartedly soaking in the news.

It always centered about politics and the government. I learned a lot about politics then. I read the papers too, every day. And then because I grew up amongst people who were more politically aware and who supposedly enjoyed having these sorts of arguments and conversations, I got to learn a lot about the goings-on, not just in my country but in other geographical locations. The talks always had tinges of bitterness and dread for how the game is played.

I had only been interested in few activities and politics doesn't come anywhere near. Apart from holding a position in high school for which I never campaigned but was elected(maybe, selected), I'm not sure I've ever heard any other such position. I did what I could then to ensure safe grounds for all.

Over here politics is referred to as a dirty game, because it is expected that whoever gets into it has something up his sleeves or is ready to go any length to do whatever must favour him/her. Maybe I dio not entirely believe in that but then I do know that it's no easy affair.

The last general elections in my Homeland made me enthusiastic and had me reading up so many political materials, watching the news very frequently and participating how I could. Contrary to expectations, stuff took a harsh twist and my interest depleted. And then I wished I had that much power to change ensure that the process was fair and reliable. I wished I could clear everyone off the political board and start stuff anew but then....

Firstly, I would want that politics is a fair game. I want a level playing field for everybody. It's been a trend over the years that people use either their status, noteriority or money to get into these leadership positions but what fairnes does it pose to an average man who probably has the county's interest as heart and who knows just what to do for development sakes and who is the people's choice but then cannot get in there because of the restrictions he faces. It would be great that the word, democracy, plays out truly.

Secondly, Accountability. The people have to frequently be updated on all of the occurrences and improvements. I would want that promises be upheld and the people stay in-the-know of how the officials have been able to manage them and the resources alllocated to them. It is right at this point that selfishness and corruption will be nipped in the bud.

Sadly, there's far too many changes in politics to be made around here. Infact, everything about it needs change.

I've never thought of life as a politician. Neither have I imagined it much. I would have said here that, no, I would never want to be a politician but then, like they say, never say never. It's safe to say I have little interest. But given that I have learned the ills (a little) and supposedly know what and where to make amends, would it not be reasonable that I take up the mantle if given the opportunity?

It will be so nice to be able to change the Dynamics around politics here. No one should have to get hurt from either wanting to serve their country or from wanting to be a patriot.
