New Year, new beginning... Loh #166.

Pleasant greetings ladies and hivians!

This is the first post in 2024 in this community and I am so elated to be participating by sharing my simple thoughts on the prompts for the week.

What is one lesson or knowledge you learned this year

The year 2023 has wrapped up and a new year has come upon us. Last year brought a lot of unprecedented changes my way. These unpleasant changes compelled me to learn quickly and adapt to the unpleasant changes.

In my country, a series of events occurred that upturned the stable lives of it's citizens, causing a hurricane of mass adaptation, howbeit painfully.

The year 2023 brought a change in government. We were all optimistic that this new government would at least try it's best to alleviate the sufferings of it's masses but we were slapped in the face as the first thing that the new government did was to cause an instant hike in fuel price.

This hike in fuel led to hikes in food stuffs and other necessities in the country leading to massive complaints here and there, "even the rich also cried", no one was spared.

With all this happenings, I learnt to adjust the way I used finances as a lady. I limited spending on wants and laid more emphasis on my needs so as to get by each day without hassles. I learnt to become "a financial guru" in 2023 better than previous years.

What would you do differently this year or start doing for yourself this year?

This year if I were to do something different from what I have been doing previously then it would be to celebrate my little wins more.

Truth is, I work so hard to make ends meet daily. The bulk of my family's responsibility rests on my small shoulders, yet I can't complain or resist it as this would be regarded as being unfilial.

Bearing this in mind all the time, I usually forget myself and push too hard to see results. When I finally achieve my target, I shrug it off as "normal" and don't appreciate the efforts that I put in to achieving the said target.

Recently, I came across a video on #Youtube in which the host (a lady) emphasized on self care and self appreciation. It woke me up and made me realize that I was punishing myself.

If anything were to happen to me, my family members would adjust and find a way to live their lives, life would move on.

I don't want life to pass through me like a blur. Life is a journey and sometimes journeys are meant to be enjoyed, irrespective of the hassles that try to hinder the journey.

I don't want to wake up one day and find out that I am old and raggedy, building other's lives and forgetting my own life.

So henceforth, no matter how small an achievement is that I achieve, I would pause, reflect on my efforts and celebrate it. I won't wait until I achieve something so great before I celebrate. This new year, every step I take in achieving my set goals will be celebrated.

I might not really do anything fancy but I'll surely take out time for myself and give myself a pat on the back. So while I am making arrangements for my family moving forward, I won't be neglecting myself either.

Let me pen down here. Thank you all for your time here, truly appreciate you all.

This is my response to both questions on the #ladiesofhive prompt for this week.

Hi @beckyroyal

What a beautiful post, so sincere and optimistic! I congratulate you for understanding yourself and valuing yourself.

I perfectly understand the economic situation you are experiencing, because I live in a country whose economy is a disaster and we live day by day in hyperinflation, so the only way to survive is through ingenuity and creativity.

I loved what you said, about celebrating your small victories, that's super cool, because self-esteem will become a habit, and this is essential to being happy and being able to progress in life.

I wish you a year 2024 with great success, progress and health.

Greetings.

I love this post, it's as if we have almost same plans for this year. The neglect, self denial which I experienced last year won't be so again this year. My self will be top priority in anything I plan this year because I wouldn't want to exist again but to live life to the fullest - living it one day at a time.

We all know that the economic situation in the country isn't going to be any better, it therefore behoves on us to focus on taking care of the very essential needs first, then the wants can come in later, only if there's more resources to take care of them.

This is our life and we must live it and happily too, when we fail we rise up and try again. When we win we celebrate it.

Keep being you, dear friend.

Hmm!! Honestly, things are not were very, very tough last year and if we don't learn from our mistakes then w will suffer yet more.

I have been among those who don't appreciate themselves and that's very bad, thanks for this post, I will start appreciating myself this year..

Happy Sunday sis🥰

We’ll said. We should always learn to celebrate and appreciate our little wins and as we move forward achieving our goals in life. We shouldn’t forget ourselves while helping others become better. We should always find time to praise ourselves and enjoy because if we don’t who will?

I can't even begin to imagine what you've been through. But since I've been on Hive, I've read a lot about the recent changes in your country. I also watched several videos from a French YouTuber who did a road trip in your country right when the government change happened.

Although you've already improved managing your finances, you might try benefiting from long-term financial planning. For instance, you could start by creating an emergency fund for the future. Start small, the key is to regularly put money into this fund. Treat it as your first and most important bill to pay.

Another thing that I think could help you is to create a support network. Whether it's with friends, family members, or others, it can provide emotional and practical support. It's not easy to build, but once it's established, it will allow you to lean on others a bit, and that would do you a lot of good, I think.

Lastly, even though you're already taking care of yourself, you could try various activities for your mental and physical well-being (I'm mainly thinking of yoga and meditation). The changes aren't seen in the short term, but rather in the long term. And since these changes occur gradually, sometimes we don't notice them. That's why I recommend keeping a journal as well. Then, in a year, you can read it and see your progress.

Every Nigerian has felt the heat of the new government and we can only hope things get better even though it doesn't look like there will be a change.

Despite all the challenges, we all learned something and that's why we are survivors.

Appreciating our little wins is very important and I wish you success throughout the year.
