Practices to stay Grounded*

We all find our center in different ways. Tell us about a practice you have that helps you stay grounded.

This is a sensitive topic for me and I want to really talk about it. There are some unwanted feelings, memories which left me with trauma. Whenever I think of those memories I get traumatised! My voice starts to shiver if I try to talk in this situation I reach out of breathe. When my breathe gets shortened and I sweat a lot. Everyone has problems in their life and they have their own way to scope up with it. So, somehow gradually through the time I have figured out my center which helped me to stay grounded from these and made me feel much better with myself! Everyone has their own life so I can’t expect someone to be with me for 24hrs.

Playing Games

I have been always a loner, being by my self didn’t know how to make friends unless they talked with me. I only have few friends and I started to invest my time into games. Whenever I feel down I choose to play games and search for new games which could meet my taste buds. I find new gamers online and have a good synergy with them. Through interacting with them I can help myself to be an extrovert to make friends with others.

Solo Date

I would go on a solo date with myself, treating my self with flowers or chocolate and enjoy the day with only myself not including anyone else. I want to feel special so I must do it to myself because I deserve it. I found that giving myself more time gives me the chance to acknowledge about myself more. To make myself feel good about me is very important in order to keep out my overthinking habit.

Interacting with new People

When I interact and get to know about someone new it gives me an adventurous vibe which helps me to discover peoples various personality and helps me to acuire knowledge about what people likes and dislikes. Then I can easily understand them and go with their flow. I know everyone is different which is nothing wrong and I find it exciting when I get to know someone new. The bond I create with them makes me more confident of myself.

Going out with Friends

Before I never went outside of my house alone. Now I do get out with my friends which keeps my mind fresh and keeps my dark thought’s away. Whenever I am with my friends they give me the reasons to love myself more. They love to hang out with me and we give each other treats! Lot’s of fun things we do together. They make me feel my existence is important in their life. Which helps me with my insecurities!

Spend more time with Family

Sometimes I am really sad and nothing can help me out it means I really need to cuddle. At this situation I would go to my mom or dad whoever is In-front of me I would just hug them and forget all of my painful memories. It does help! actually my mom had advised me if I ever feel down I must come and her or dad it’s gonna make the weight lift lighter. Guess what it works every time if not any other methods are working this one must work. When I share and have a chat with them it makes me feel better and I love it when they listen to me quietly without asking any questions.

Meditation

I have found many ways to make myself grounded and one of them is meditation. For me I think it’s very healthy to meditate and it brings peace to mind. I control my overthinking through meditation before that I used to overthink more than I do now. So, meditation has helped me out a lot to be a calm person.

Travelling

Travelling to new places and exploring the nature helps to inhale and the beautiful nature makes my heart pound out of love. Ever Green spot is what I search for while travelling to somewhere.
Gardening

I have plenty of flowers in my ground, it is a source to make me feel loved. I feel like the flowers are always waiting for me to adore them. When the flowers bloom it feels like they are growing through my emotions.

Writing

When I can’t let out my feelings I prefer to write them in my personal diary. Where I can complain about anything I want. I scream through the words which helps me to release my temper. I am short tempered person but I don’t prefer to vent it out on someone who doesn’t deserve it. So, I choose to keep quite and write my feelings down.

I have explored myself a lot and these things are my ways of dispatching from the trauma. Distressing feelings did not completely vanish but those grounding techniques sorted most of my problems.

Wow! A lot of positive activities, which is definitely going to help you a lot throughout your life.

I have never tried meditation at least not the kind of meditation people think when they hear that word. For me, my meditation is just listening to my favourite songs. What is your way of meditating, Haya?

I also play games (mostly pubg) when I feel my mind become unstable. I play 3/4 matches and I uninstalled it because I need to be careful not to waste too much time for gaming and I have many other things to do. But in rare cases, I feel disappointed and so I play games rarely.
Solo date is interesting but making adventure is more thrilling.
Spending time with family and friends is very necessary & helps to remain positive in life.
In the case of medication, I have nothing to say because I have no experience with it.
Writing the emotion in the diary is a great way to feel better and it works very well. I have tried it several times.

Another well-written, and thoughtful post! This could be a "Handbook On Ways To Stay Grounded"! It's not easy, to find ways to get past all the things that knock us off balance. Harder still... to share our battles with others. But your ending statement... priceless:

We are actually different and we all have different qualities as human. I also love to play games when I am bored because I also don't make friends. But sometimes I just need to go out to catch some breath to be fine.

SoloDate i love... mostly out eating a Kebab
Meditating come just naturally to me... preferable on the coast
Gardening - yep... i can really relate to that
...though the most important exercise to me would be cooking!
