Education in a Maze - Memorising over Creativity | Future for a Great nation

Today I am going to talk about the educational system in Bangladesh. I know that no system in the field is perfect as it is supposed to be but those systems can be better by upgrading it regularly which is based on the recent situation and time. In my country there are many types of medium of education. Like for parents it is hard to decide where they want their children to study for a secured future. Because the society has built a thought that only government job is the best job. For real if this keeps going on then we are going to face a great loss of our future nation because of a great failure of our education system. There are many things I would like to remove from the educational system and also add some new ideas.

I have seen class sizes in public schools/college which is always very large and the student amount is approximately 70-100 and that is settled for per class. In my opinion I think it makes a tough situation for a teacher to reach out to every student or check their homework’s or make someone understand individually if they are facing problem with anything. Like different students will come up with different problems but the teacher can’t help out everyone. So, the teacher needs a small space and I would say a cozy room to teach would be great with small amount of students which would be easy for a teacher to teach and for the students to learn.

Another thing I have also faced is that the education system judges every student on the base of their memory. Student have to memorise each line accordingly and limited knowledge to textbook learning. Moreover, if anyone has memorised the answers they can easily get good marks. There is no space left for creativity. So, there should be a place for the creativity instead of memorising the pages. After that every student will become confident and creative. There is not enough encouragement on problem solving differently. Like everyone has to follow the same rules in order to find the correct answer. Education system should never relay on memorisation. In my opinion students should have the freedom to find out answers creatively. They should move from one idea to another one which is known as creativity that is all needed.

I also think that for proper education teachers should be trained. There is another important thing must be pointed that the lack of qualified teachers specially in rural areas. Many teachers don’t know how to teach due to their less skills of teaching.

In general approximately 90% of the students or more than that take private tutoring. To make up for exams. Well, why can’t school teachers teach the students properly so that they don’t have hire a private teacher at home. What’s the need of going to the school if the students need to learn it from the home tutor also, it’s a financial burden to the families.

The parents of todays generation have to build the mindset that if the student needs high quality education then they must pay highly. Because the educational system has made those circumstances. Mostly students who belong to a poor family despite being intelligent they are facing problems in this situation. Those students can’t even think of studying about the subject they want to pursue for their dream work because the financial problem arrives. Anyways, private education institutions are profit seekers they are running education like a business. In the name of education they are looting the students. Those who belong to the rich family they don’t care on this subject because it’s not a problem for them. More and more students who belong to a poor family must be provided with scholarship to study.

We should now build our educational system on recent progress with new changes which can bring a balance. At first we need to start with a mission to make sure that all educational contexts are safe. Need to build a curriculum system for learning new skills. We also need to check that all students are focused on their educational journey and no student goes uneducated because they are the future of our nation.

Moreover, need to throw away the habit of memorising practices by valuing the creativity. The subject which is not necessary for us should be removed. Because when we get in the higher classes we realise that the previous study we had done was not needed but a waste of time. Like in university we have to study almost everything in English we barely know any synonyms so when we look at the things we already know but because of the language difference we barely understand it and find difficulty to answer properly. Because from the beginning we learn everything in Bangla. So, students must be taught English in highly skilled also it’s an international language every student must learn it. Like for example if I was taught in school properly then in recent time there was no need for the IELTS course which costed a lot of money.

Also, Playground should be built for sports activity. Most parents from Bangladesh think that their children will get diverted from studies if they play sports. They think that their children all they need to do is study to get a dream job. But fun is needed in life. Not everyone will become teacher or business man. Moreover, some might want to be a sports player. That can also be counted as a profession.

So, if only one thing that I can add to the education system that would be teacher teaching the students accurately instead of just taking money. Teaching the skills they need to learn which will help them near future and to build their life, let them know about the reality of the world how hard it is to survive instead of making them read about fairy tales. Like when I was young I used to think of the world being like a fairy everything will happen as I desire but when I grew up I have seen the world when my parents are not always there for me and it is the reality that the real life is not smooth as it is described in the books. I think school is the place where we should be taught about it so that in the future we don’t feel like getting scammed or face any problems.

Overall, We need this improvement to come from the private institutions at first. Then the government should take some steps to improve the education system of Bangladesh. But without proper idea and knowledge all this new innovation will go in vain. So, it’s important for all of us to take a small step forward to bring a change to the education system. If the guardians and the students both want the changes then gradually it can be possible.
