πŸ‘΅ Local Proverbs/Folk Sayings πŸ‘΄

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ’» Week #25 Challenge πŸ‘©β€πŸ’»

September 12th ➑️ September 19th, 2022

Β  Β  Β This week's challenge should be a lot of fun because I like learning about other cultures through food and proverbs. We've already done a lot of food-related challenges, but haven't yet done a proverb challenge. Folk sayings, expressions, and local proverbs are all welcome in this week's challenge. We don't often think much about the proverbs we quote often in day-to-day life, but these expressions vary widely from country to country, and also among different religions, cultures, and linguistic groups.

Β  Β  Β Share one or many, perhaps the expression in your local language, a translation to English, and of course the meaning behind the expression, because it may not be clear for someone from your area. My history is mostly in the USA and Cambodia, so I will leave a few here as an example.

USA

"Strike while the iron is hot."

Meaning: a call to act quickly when a good opportunity is presented to you.

Cambodia - by @Srey-Yuu

"αž…αŸ†αžŽαŸαŸ‡αž‡αžΆαž’αžΆαž αžΆαžš αž”αŸ’αžšαžΆαž‡αŸ’αž‰αžΆαž‡αžΆαž’αžΆαžœαž»αž’."
"Knowledge is food, wisdom is a weapon."

Meaning: knowledge and wisdom will never fail you.

Β  Β  Β Some creativity will be required to add relevant images to your post, but I am sure you ASEAN Hivers are up to the challenge. Feel free to add things to your post such as when you first heard the proverb, or perhaps even share certain proverbs that certain family members always say, etc.

Week #24 ASEAN Hive Challenge Winners
πŸ“β™ŸοΈ Tabletop Games 🎲🎴

Β  Β  Β I wasn't sure if this challenge was going to be a hit or not. After all, tabletop games are a little more common in the west than they are in Southeast Asia. I wish I had found time to share some of the games we've collected over the years. There were only two entries for this challenge, but both of them were outstanding posts, so I split the 3rd prize between the two winners. Go ahead and have a look, there were quite a few games I was unfamiliar with.

1st Prize πŸ† 10% Beneficiary & 125 Ecency Points

Sorry for late response, but one or more, totally up to you. I realize answering your question so late doesn't help, but the whole family and I have been sick for a week, hard to keep Hivin' under the circumstances, and my engagement fell behind a bit.

Congratulations to the winners of the ASEAN Hive Challenge #24, your work is amazing and you really deserve to win πŸ‘πŸ‘

Wow..it looks like the next week's challenge is very interesting, @justinparke I think you are a very smart person because you know that in Southeast Asia there are so many different tribes, ethnicities, religions, and languages. In every language in a country, in the daily life of its people there must be some kind of local proverb / Folk sayings. And yeah, in our country Indonesia there are lots of local proverbs πŸ˜…πŸ‘Œ

I will try to follow this challenge with passion, who knows I will win hehehe πŸ€£πŸ‘

You're right, a lot of cultures and backgrounds of SE Asia lead to a wide variety of things like poetry, idioms, expressions, etc.

Where I'm from in the USA, it's full of cornfields as far as the eye can see, a lot like endless ricefields in SE Asia, so many of our local proverbs always involve corn πŸ˜‰. It's even slang to call a monthly salary "corn" because of corn's importance in the local economy.

Nice choices, and thanks for giving the underlying meanings behind each of the proverbs.

With pleasure my brother, hopefully the three types of local Indonesian proverbs that I share to the ASEAN community can be additional useful knowledge for all of you πŸ™
