A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words - THE LAST CALL

@castri-ja stopped in front of the phone booth. It was the only one left in the whole neighborhood, and perhaps in the whole city. The others had been removed years ago, replaced by modern travel centers offering information, bookings, and internet connection. He walked over to the semi-hidden booth right next to a new One-Stop Traveler Center. He pulled a coin out of his pocket and inserted it into the slot and dialed his sister's number. She lived in Germany, and they hadn't seen each other for a long time.

@castri-ja wanted to surprise her and announce that he was going to visit her soon. He had saved enough money to buy a plane ticket. As the bell rang, @castri-ja looked to his left, he observed in detail the new cabins, which even had air conditioning, comfortable seats, and he could make video calls, he was excited to see this new world, but he also felt a certain fear of leaving his own world behind, the one he had used for many years.

The call connected and Luis heard his sister's voice.

— 🤶 Hey, who is it? She asked.
— 👳‍♀ Hello, it's @castri-ja, your brother. He answered.
— 🤶 @castri-ja! How nice to hear from you! How are you? How's everything?
— 👳‍♀ Fine, fine, everything's fine. I'm calling to tell you that…

@castri-ja couldn't finish the sentence. Suddenly, there was a beep and the line went dead. Luis looked at the counter in the booth and saw that the time had run out. The coin had lasted only a short time. He reached into his pocket for another coin, but he had no more. He felt frustrated and disappointed. @castri-ja had waited so long to make that call, and now he had been left halfway. The new booths give you the option to communicate using any available form of payment. He decided to use the new One-Stop Center. As soon as he tried to open the glass door, a voice greeted him warmly. Once inside, everything he had seen on the Internet about these services had fallen short. He managed to contact his sister again, but this time via video call. He understood that technological advances were here to stay and that he had to adapt to them.

@castri-ja left the cabin, wondering if it was worth exchanging the old for the new, the familiar for the unfamiliar, the simple for the complex.

@castri-ja walked away from the old booth, without looking back. Little did he know that that had been his last call from a phone booth. The next day, the booth was dismantled and taken to a warehouse, where it joined other forgotten and abandoned booths. No one noticed its absence. No one, except He, who when he passed by again, it had already been removed.

Leaving the story behind and this time changing the speech in first person, I can tell you that here in Canada there are this type of cabins and special modules for travelers. The individual modules have a bed and a small bathroom. The integral module has all the services online for total comfort. The modules can be rented by the hour, by the day or by the week “they are for momentary use, not for living”.

Come on, there is still time to participate in this wonderful and interesting challenge

Here in Argentina, there are also in the tourist areas, some kind of cabins with amenities such as WIFI, the use is usually for rent.

Some extra coins and he could talk on.

I think the booths you have in Canada are different. This one is small. No seats nothing. You can stand up straight with a child if you are not too big.

The "phone booth" at the right isn't a real booth. The phone hangs in the open and just has a roof above its head.

Would love to see what you are talking about. Btw old and new can perfectly be used next to each other.

I wouldn't bet everything on high tech, without power this means we have nothing left.

The phone booth has served it purpose over the years. How ironic was the fact that the person was the last one able to use the booth before it was taken away. And to return to see it removed.

Thanks for sharing your story.

Payphone booths are gradually disappearing.
Cell phones have become more prevalent.

The technology has advanced so much that even a layman doesn't require any assistance. Good that @castri-ja was able to speak to his sister, even it was for a minute.
