Showtime for Alchemy Stones: Cancelled One Event; Got Into Another!

After considerable deliberation, we decided to cancel our participation as a vendor in the upcoming outdoor music festival at the beginning of August.

The main reason being that participating in a venue like this and having to camp for three days, along with having to buy a number of supplies and fixtures to accommodate an overnight outdoor show just seemed like it was likely to cost more money than we were going to make.

Not to mention that the weather around these parts has been so unstable this year that we didn't really relish the idea of sitting out in the middle of a field, in the rain, trying to keep ourselves and product dry and clean!

Whereas do I like music festivals and other outdoor events, I really have reached a point where I'd much rather be in a more controlled setting, with a more targeted audience. Sure, people at music festivals might be interested in the art, but it tends to be fairly secondary to their overall experience.

Hence my previous concern about getting more "wearables" made, since that at least would solve one aspect of the "what do I DO with a painted stone, anyway?"

Fortunately, this decision doesn't mean that we suddenly have to accept that we had a lost opportunity, because we were subsequently invited to participate in an indoor arts and crafts event put on annually by the local Unity Spiritual Center.

We have participated in some of their events in the past and they have typically gone fairly well for us. What's more, the financial commitment is limited to donating a percentage of actual sales to the organization rather than having to pay a fixed booth fee up front.

Having been away from the "show circuit" for almost three years — on account of all the COVID nonsense and restrictions — this event seemed like a somewhat "softer" way to get back in the swing of things.

Variations on a color theme...

The event is going to take place in the latter part of July, and I will naturally post updates as we go along.

In the meantime, I really do need to get busy with painting stones to fill in certain glaring holes in or inventory, specifically in the area of where wearables which is kind of our most recent answer to that pervasive "what do you do with the painted stone anyway"" question.

Hopefully things will go well, since our local art buying audience really hasn't had much to look at, for quite a while!

Thanks for stopping by! Do leave me a comment if you feel so inspired — interaction and engagement are always welcome!

Because I am trying to make some semblance of income — a part time living, even — I now add this footer to all my posts, in the hope that someone, somewhere, might decide to take a further look at my work, and perhaps consider supporting independent art.

Right on I am working on getting things set up and at Legacy 9 and that is definitely on my mind.

I can't wait to go to Vegas.

Unfortunately it'll be extremely hot.

Hopefully I'll be able to have enough for a full table of products for sale.
