More Show Preparation: Stands Made From Driftwood

As an event draws closer, our prep work also becomes more intense and frenetic.

With just three days till Friday night setup time, the number of lists and "notes to self" is growing rapidly!

Meanwhile, I am continuing with the "driftwood accessories" experiment. It's actually not a bad way to show off the stones, and I'm hopeful it will be a selling point.

Driftwood can be a bit "tricky" at times because you never quite know how broken down the wood is going to be. The above turned out to be a super nice and hardened cedar log that took shaping really well.

Just making a few of these stands for this event, and we'll see how it goes and whether or not it is something worthy of making a permanent part of the Alchemy Stones "product line."

The stands aren't just plain driftwood, my wife has been adding small crystal and beads "adornments" for a more finished look.

With this little "experiment" taken care of, it's time to get back to painting any stones needed to fill in "holes" left from sales we made back during the Spring show "season."

In general, we actually prefer to do indoor shows, and most of what we will be doing for the rest of this year will be indoor events. Being outside, you're always at the mercy of the elements and that can put a real damper on your spirits, especially if it's a rainout!

Now it's time for me to get back to painting stones. Not sure how much more I can get done in just two days... time will tell!

One of the things we are trying to do is simplify what we offer, based on what typically gets the most attention at shows. It would be lovely to be able to just create, with abandon, but I have to pay attention to what actually ends up going home with people.

Does that mean the proverbial "selling out?" I'd like to think not, just being sensitive to what the audience thinks is coolest!

Tomorrow we (hopefully) have parts of another new display idea coming in the mail... that relates to the small stones pictured. More about that later!

For now, time to get back to creativity!
