Commerce on Hive? Next Step HiveList — Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is!

Since the early days on Hive's "predecessor," one of the major factors that made me interested in this whole gig was the idea of of actually using cryptocurrency in conventional online commerce.

Not a New Idea...

From time to time, I suggested to "The Powers That Be" that it would be awesome if there actually was such a thing as a decentralized peer-to-peer marketplace within the Hive ecosystem — a sort of "marriage" of eBay, Craigslist and Amazon on the blockchain where individuals could trade their goods and services to the global audience of users... and not only would transaction costs be very low, but the entire cross-border commerce would be facilitated by using Hive/HBD as the transaction currency, thereby completely bypassing traditional banking, currency exchange and payment processors.

Compared to other blockchains, Hive seemed ideal: extremely fast block times, virtually non-existent transaction fees, and wallet addresses that were easier to remember than 40 characters of gobbledigook.

Maybe Nobody Cares?

Alas, the idea was generally shot down or shut down because (A) most people were far more interested in trading crypto than actually using it in "real life" commerce, and (B) why try to do something Amazon and eBay already has people trained to go to THEM for?

Besides, what merchant/artist would want to transact in a currency that fluctuates considerably in value?

So here we are, six years later...

I did participate in various fledgling attempts, I even managed to sell a few Alchemy Stones via a utility called "SteemBay" but it soon enough went the way of others. Later, I was going to have a go with @homesteaderscoop, but that also fell by the wayside.

Time to Try Again: HiveList!

It's my belief that it's not really a right thing to do to complain about the absence of something, if you don't support new attempts at creating that "something."

So, to that end, I have decided that it's time for me to take AlchemyStones to @thelogicaldude's HiveList Project... in part thanks to repeated encouragement from @ganjafarmer (thanks!).

So, now I am getting ramped up to do my first crypto-based online store.

Step 1 of the process has been to acquire and stake some Hive-Engine LIST Tokens of which I now have somewhat over 5,000 staked, as part of the "deal" to be able to set up an "unlimited" store.

Next, I need to scrape together/earn about $5.00 worth of liquid Hive/HBD to pay for the basic set-up. Hopefully, that won't take too long!

I think it's important that we support attempts to create the features on Hive that we'd like to see... and it has long been my hope we'd see actual ecommerce here, so I'm going to support this... and hopefully even sell a few things before the Holidays roll around!
