Thousands of Child-Care Businesses Are Closed For Good

Since last year there are a number of child-care facilities that have closed their doors for good, and many others who still remain closed.

It is estimated that 1 in 4 child-care providers are still closedfor business.

Prior to 2020 there were already some issues facing this market, one of the most common being the high costs that are associated with child-care. What are the average costs of child-care? Today it is estimated to run upwards of $16k or more per year for a family to pay for the care for one child. It is also one of the most over-regulated markets in the country.

Over the last several decades, it has been reported that child services like this have increased at a faster rate than wage growth, rising significantly to the point of leaving many parents struggling to keep up.

Child-care costs last year increased roughly 47 percent.

Not only has the government played a significant part in creating problems with this market in the first place with their over-regulation, but they also forced businesses to close for an extended period of time last year and that for some meant they would never re-open again.

Lawmakers have sought to pass new legislation as a part of the recently approved relief package which would bring billions of dollars in relief to the child care sector.

There are still thousands of these businesses that have closed now for good and it might have been a significantly higher number if some of them hadn't received the relief funds that they did.

One thing that would help this market to get back to seeing growth again would be to reduce government infringement involving interactions which take place within it. Lowering that infringement from the government in terms of reducing any over-regulation doesn't mean it would be reducing high-quality market options altogether. Why? because there will always be a need for those dependable child-care services, as parents want to know they are sending their kids somewhere safe and effective. They will want to do their own investigation, read reviews etc, and make sure that the service meets their needs.

Determining what option might be the best place to send their child is a decision that can be made without any threat of violence from above, but through co-operation and voluntary association. Government restrictions within this industry today in the United States don't ensure that children will receive safe or quality services anyways, as there are many circumstances where the opposite had been discovered regardless of what prior qualifications that business might have obtained for themselves. In either market there will be risk so why not foster a market that might bring better services through more competition and lower prices, because what's been growing over the last several decades is a costly problem that millions of parents are continually struggling to deal with.

What are the reasons behind the increase in restrictions? I'm not familiar with this problem since child care is non-existent in Nigeria but just like most problems, I feel like systematically tackling the root cause of Government restrictions will invariably improve the situation
