Don't be afraid of making a tit of yourself!

Hello Hello Hivers, the Weekend is here!

I have just finished my Saturday dinner and am now having a coffee to celebrate the 100th edition of the #weekend-engagement prompts.

This community that was founded by the GDog the wonderful man himself Galen @galenkp has gone from strength to strength and I am immensely proud to part of the moderation team along with the equally wonderful Andy @andrastia.

Whilst the format may have changed from the original commenting on a post to now writing a post replying to a range of weekend-engagement prompts, the engagement within the community is high.

What better way than to celebrate 100 weeks of weekend-engagement by having a set of prompts that are connected to engagement?

Truly another masterstroke from @galenkp

shhhh...I shall give you all a tip or two in the next few sentences. Do you see the quality of the posts from Galen? The infocus pictures (source link if required), the use of an appropriate quote, the text format, the post layout? This all takes time and effort. He sets the bar high in his communities. I know many people post here purely in the hope of winning rewards, well that is all fine, we all want rewards from Hive, don't we! However if you have read the weekly prompt, you will have seen the quality and proofreading of the post, so ensure that your post is the best you can make it. Put effort into your work, as Galen says, you are showcasing yourself, so be the best you can be and adhere to the guidelines before you hit the publish button!

No matter what you do, do your best at it. If your going to be a bum, be the best bum there is.
- Robert Mitchum -

In this post I shall endeavour to answer this prompt from [WE100] Weekend-Engagement Friday blog prompts

💯 Engagement on Hive

What does engagement on Hive mean to you and how do you do it? What methods or strategies have you used and what results have you had? Do you feel it has been helpful to build your account, have you enjoyed it or do you feel you'd rather not have to do it?

What does engagement on Hive mean to you and how do you do it?

I view Hive as a social media site with benefits. This means that I am social here and I engage. After these three questions I have left some quirky tips, but essentially engagement on Hive means finding communities to be a part of and finding creators to engage with, coupled with answering interactions on my own posts. It helps when I have something in common with them. Then it is a question of reading their posts, and commenting with meaningful comments. If there are replies then I will answer those as well, and keep the engagement up for as long as appropriate.

If I do not like what I have read, rather than make derogatory comments, I will close the page and move on.
You know the age old saying Silence is Golden, well at times we need to be quiet, that would be one such time!

What methods or strategies have you used? and what results have you had?

I am not sure if I have and engagement methods as such but I would say that these are some of my strategies:

  • I do answer all comments and replies that I receive on my posts.
  • I do leave meaningful comments on virtually every post that I read.
  • I do participate in challenges and contests and engage with other contestants.
  • When I get on Hive I will check my notifications before I think about posting.
  • If I am not happy with a post I have written I will not post it until it is the quality I want.
  • I do my best to be me, real and genuine.
  • I join community servers in Discord and engage there too.
  • If it is not fun then I stop doing it.

What results have you had?

I joined Hive last year September 3rd when I created a Splinterlands account.
However, I did not really understand Hive at all, I seemed to have no resource credits to do anything, consequently I gave up. These two awesome ladies @coquicoin and @ifarmgirl were having a ball here and pulled me back and explained things to me, gradually I got the bug, now I get Hive.

January 1st 2022 I powered up and had 11 HP now I have 955HP so pretty good going I think and my reputation is at 64, this was all achieved through engaging.
The other way I think my engagement works from a results perspective is by looking at the Hive Engagement League. For the past few weeks I have finished in the top three and have won it a couple of times.
This gives me a bonus of 7.5, 5 or 2.5 HP just for engaging and doing what I normally do!
Talk about a win win situation!

Do you feel it has been helpful to build your account, have you enjoyed it or do you feel you'd rather not have to do it?

Without engagement I would have left my account, I love it and love the connections that have been forged in these last four months. Finally I am now doing it the way I want to, and have got the Hive bug!

Jmmm I have to look for this WE
I see that again and again I struggle in keeping track on my friends and conversations here. Probably it would be easier if my english would be better. Its gettin better, I learned a lot, but comparing the german and english conversation I see, the first one is doing better in my "hive performance"
Have a great weekend dear night owl :-)

hi beeber, people like me who are native English speakers often forget how hard it is for non native English speakers to engage in another language! I did learn German at school but it is the weakest of the main European languages as my Spanish and French are way better than my German!
I hope that you are having a wonderful weekend my fellow night owl and are you drinking lots of water 🤣

Ageese has to be far away from that bluetit. He's starting to be on the lookout for birds on the balcony, but he still can't peek out as Cora used to do. 🙀😸😺

Such a wonderful post as usual @tengolotodo 😊 One of the main reasons I joined Hive was because I was able to be myself around here and post anything and everything. Joining The Weekend community has been such a lovely experience - from the great prompts to the even greater posts and extremely talented authors 🤩
Thank you for sharing - I’ve definitely taken a mental note of a few things I’d like to work on 😊

Thank you for reading, and I hope that there was something of use in there for you.

You have made some great points on your post, engagement is key on hive , most of what i have learn so far is through engaging with other authors.

This is interesting! You gave the best tips, especially with the introduction. Engagement is the key in any platform and if you think you can grow your account on Hive by just posting and running away, you are deceiving yourself.

If I do not like what I have read, rather than make derogatory comments, I will close the page and move on.

Same with me. Rather than leaving generic comments, I would instead upvote and leave if I don´t understand your post because we can´t fully understand everything we read but we keep learning every day.

Thanks for sharing your tips in engaging and building one´s account here.

But....you really tried growing your HP from 11 to 955 just this year.

👏👏👏 yep you understand Princess:)
Oh generic comments I quite often ignore if I see them🤣🤣🤣
Keep on learning, that is one reason I love Hive, we learn so much about other cultures ;)

Thanks for your non generic comment, I appreciate it and have a great new week!

jeje Happy Mothers Day @lisrl26 yes pretty new I am to Hive.
I believe in sharing, so if anything I do helps others, then I am happy!
Do you know something...
There is a little cafe in my little town in Scotland that has ... for lunch ... Arepas!!!
So one day I will go and take pictures, one of three owners has roots in Venezuela!

Thanks @tengolotodo the celebration of mothers was accompanied by lots of rain.

Hopefully soon you can go to taste the arepas, I recommend reina pepiada (avocado, chicken and mayonnaise), carne mechada with yellow cheese (beef, skirt steak), chicken and many more. 😜

Yes I found a place that is local to me that has Arepas, but, now many fillings, I will have the chicken and chorizo.

So you got rain, well welcome to my weather at the moment!

Hi Ed, I will always be grateful to you for helping me when I joined Hive.😊 You gave me the right advice at the right time. And now I love Hive more and more and I try to find as much time to engage as possible. I enjoy reading and writing and engagement comes spontaneously when we do what we love.

hi Jelena, it is fun and as long as you start off doing what people tell you then you do great. It took me a few months before I really listened to Eli and came back and did what she said and then yes it becomes more and more fun:)
Like you say when you do something you love then it becomes spontaneous and round and round it goes:)
Wishing you a wonderful new week Jelena!

I'm a huge fan of engagement and I believe many people don't understand how important this is. They just post and run like you said. Little they know that the engagement will give the money in the long run.
I answer to every comment under my post unless it's just a super short comment with no value like:

Hi
Nice post
Good job

You get the idea.
I also try to comment to other post I like or can add value with my comment. Sure, this is a bit more work than just posting random stuff, but it is worth it in the long run.

Are we not here for the long term winning and success?

These are very thoughtful and helpful tips you've shared here. I guess you may just need to charge us a buck for this cos I mean it can as well serve as "secrets to growth on hive ". Anyways, I do almost everything you mentioned there except engage outside my blog. I don't find enough time to read other people's post except person I run into the link to the post somewhere. But then they say time is made for man and not man for time. Anyways, I'll seek ways of balancing myself eventually. Thanks for the beautiful tips

Thank you so much @zyzymena time management is pretty important on hive if you want to achieve everything. I like to visit profiles of people who take the time to read any post of mine and leave a thoughtful and meaningful comment.
I think that you do these tips already, maybe not the outside blog, but I am sure that will come too, what I do find is that people go through periods of engagement so the numbers stay the same for me, but sometimes who I interact with changes individually:)

This can be included as a valuable peace in a "How To" guide to use Hive successfully.

I love the points you are highlighting here. Two, in particular, are standing out to me...

  • Pay attention to the quality of your post, and
  • If you don't have anything good to say, rather say nothing...

That's just putting it in my own words, but I'm sure it's obvious what I'm referring to!

Thanks for sharing this awesome information with us, and I'm glad those two ladies pulled you back in! You're doing a great job, keep it up!

You highlighted two great points and put them into great words. I think the second point is a valuable one, both in Hive and offline too!

Thank you so much for your very kind words and they are very much appreciated:)

Yes I am grateful two ladies did not take no for an answer and pulled me back.
Wishing you a wonderful relaxing weekend Jaco.
