dCity: Tax, SIM, Active Users and Considerations / Tasse, SIM, Utenti Attivi e Considerazioni (ENG/ITA)
Hi hivers and dCity players,
I signed up for the dCity game on June 20, 2020.
Since a few days there is a topic that is on the lips of all the citizens of my virtual city and that also worries some dCity players:
Why are taxes so high?
As I write this post, taxes are at 64.80%.
A month ago, on December 30, 2020, taxes were at 21.50%
Obviously no one likes high taxes but taxes can also have a utility and while in real life they can be misspent in the dCity game they serve to reduce SIM token inflation.
And I think the current governor @dreamm chose to put the taxes so high because of the loss of SIM token value recorded in the last period.
In fact looking at the past the SIM token has almost always had a stable value around 0.0049 HIVE.
In the following image is the graph of the SIM token value in the period October 21, 2020 - December 20, 2020 and the stability of the value is evident at a glance.
If we go further back in time, trading volumes decrease but the value always moves between 0.004 and 0.005 HIVE.
In the following image there is instead the graph for the period August 11 - October 10.
Now let's see the current graph of the SIM token value.
Today January 30, 2021, 1 SIM has a value of 0.003798 HIVE (Highest Bid)
The decrease is evident but I personally do not worry because I think it is also a consequence of the higher value that HIVE has acquired compared to the past.
I also went to see if any big player had put up for sale a large amount of SIMs but looking at who is selling and who is buying there is no one of the big stakeholders who is selling off large amounts of SIM.
More than taxes and the value of SIM tokens which is still important I would be much more concerned about a drop in the number of active users.
The number of active users
As you can see from the following three graphs the number of active players is constantly growing.
Graph of active users in the period August 10, 2020 - October 7, 2020.
on August 10, 2020 there were just over 800 active users and on October 7, 2020 there were about 1000.
Below is the graph of active users during the period October 20 - December 17, 2020.
Except for the days between November 21 and November 26, days in which the active users dropped suddenly and I do not know the reason, then the trend has been of constant growth.
If we look at the current graph the growing trend of active users continues.
Yesterday January 29, 2021 there were 1751 active users compared to about 1500 on December 17, 2020.
Conclusion
The steadily growing number of active users is the main reason I don't worry about the current value of SIM tokens.
I'm not against such high taxes for certain and not too long periods of time, but I would have preferred a more gradual increase of the taxes, also because generally too strong changes are taken badly and such a sudden increase can transmit a situation of alarm and preoccupation, while the situation of the dCity game is absolutely not an alarm. Looking at the number of active users dCity is a healthy game/investment that attracts more and more users.
What do you think about the current situation of dCity?
Do you agree with the current level of taxes?
Will the value of SIM continue to fall or will it rise back to its average values?
Important Note:
In every kind of investment there is always a risk factor to evaluate and consider.
I'm happy and satisfied to have invested in the dCity game but I can't predict the future (unfortunately) and so this post of mine is not an invitation to invest on dCity.
Tasse, SIM, Utenti Attivi e Considerazioni

.I asked in another thread bit I'll ask here too...where do the taxes go to? Who controls those funds? Or, as this post might suggest with preventing inflation, are they simply funds NOT minted?
Hi @crrdlx
I am not 100% sure but the taxes reduce the production of SIMs of each card and the taxes do not go into the pockets of any user and for this reason they have the effect of reducing inflation.
But even if the effect is positive on the price of SIMs I do not agree with such high taxes, yes taxes but not almost 70%...
To get a sure answer to your curiosity you have to ask in the discord group of dCity and you'll see that the creator of the game will answer fully ;)

Thanks for your answer. I understand about how, if taxes indeed are SIM that not's minted, inflation would be held in check. However, calling them "taxes" would kind of be a misnomer, in my mind. Taxes, ideally, would be used for some constructive purpose...roads, library, etc. At least in real life that's how it's supposed to go. Maybe it should be called "inflation check" mechanism instead! Thanks again.
For me I just got in this month and I saw taxes increase from about 20% up to 70%. If this is a strategy to reduce inflation and increase the Sim price then I don't think it's that a bad idea since the president isn't the one who holds or use the Sim tax for personal use

Yes I agree with you
taxes in dCity have a useful purpose but if they are too high they can be counterproductive.
In my opinion it is better to have 35% for two weeks and not 70% for one week. The current governor may have just gotten the timing wrong in raising taxes.
Thanks for stopping by @marvinix :)

Yes he got the timing wrong. He's moving out in two day. So we'll see what happens with the next president

.Interessante e saggia riflessione sulle tasse.
