Characteristics of Creative Thinking Ability

As part of personality, according to Sukarni Catur Utami Munandar (1985), a professor of psychology from the University of Indonesia, revealed that people who are able to think creatively have 2 supporting elements, namely cognitive aspects and affective aspects. what is meant by the aspect of cognition (aptitude) is the characteristics associated with intellectual abilities, talents, individual abilities. while the affective aspect (non aptitude) is a characteristic related to the attitude, feelings, emotions. More, Munandar detailing these two aspects.

Characteristics of Cognitive Aspect (Aptitude)

a. fluent thinking skills. This ability is characterized by
(1) the ability to generate many ideas, answers, problem solving or questions
(2) the ability to provide many ways or suggestions for doing things,
(3) always think of more than one answer.

b. The trawling skill is flexible. The characteristics are:
(1) generating ideas for answers or varied questions,
(2) being able to see a problem from different perspectives,
(3) looking for many alternatives or different directions,
(4) being able to change the way of approach. or way of thinking.

c. Original thinking skills. Features:
(1) being able to produce new and unique expressions (2) thinking of unusual ways to express themselves, (3) being able to make unusual combinations
common of parts/elements.

d. Detailing skills (collaborating) Characteristics: (1) able to enrich and develop an idea or product.
(2) adding or detailing the details of an object, idea or situation to make it more interesting.

e. Skills to assess (evaluate) Characteristics:
(1) find a benchmark for self-assessment and determine whether a question is correct, a sound plan or a wise action or not.
(2) able to make decisions on open situations, (3) not only sparking ideas, but also implementing them.

Effective Traits (Noraptitude)

a. Curiosity. Characteristics:
(1) always driven to seek more,
(2) always ask a lot of questions, (3) always pay attention to people, objects, and situations) are sensitive in observing and want to know.

b. Imaginative. Characteristics:
(1) able to demonstrate or imagine
things that don't or have never happened
(2) uses fantasy but knows the difference between fantasy and reality.

c. Feel challenged by diversity. Characteristic features:
(1) motivated to tackle difficult problems.
(2) feeling challenged by complicated situations.
(3) more interested in difficult tasks.

d. Dare to take risks. Characteristic features:
(1) dare to give an answer even though it is not necessarily correct,
(2) not afraid of failure or criticism,
(3) not to be hesitant because of the ambiguity of unconventional or unstructured things.

e. Appreciative nature. Characteristic features:
(1) can appreciate guidance and direction in life
(2) appreciate the abilities and talents of their own developing talents.
