Brave Wallet - How to Setup Brave Wallet

Brave browser recently rolled out it's new version of the crypto wallet. It does not rely on external metamask plugin anymore. Based on the existing set of the features, It seems to be extending the Metamask wallet with new interface and settings.

So let's take a look at how to setup the Brave Wallet. If you have yet to get the new update for the wallet. Wait few more days, the update would arrive to your browser soon.

It should show you the screen that looks something like below image.

If you already have your Metamask setup on the browser with previous settings. You just have to import your existing wallet like I did below.

You will be asked to add new password as the new wallet does not uses the Metamask input anymore. So it'd require it's own password.

Once you set it up you will be taken to the Brave Wallet Dashboard. That looks something like this.

Once you go to the dashboard you would find that by default it only has the Ethereum and the BAT token. So if your Brave BAT reward program is broken then you may not be needing the BAT as it is. But for those who want to use it can store it here too.

Unfortunately you would need KYC done in order to move your earned BAT to external wallet. As of now the brave only offers earned BAT to be spent mode if you don't have KYC. So from my side I don't find this much useful anymore.

So if you want to add the asset token on Ethereum to the existing dashboard space. You can use the following.

When you click on + button that says add asset, you would find this small screen.

If you are playing the new games on Ethereum and wish to add their network token. You may find it harder as the setting for adding new network is not listed on the wallet page. Instead it's located as shown in below image.

Similarly you may find that your Address is listed near the tab called portfolio. So that's where you can find your Ethereum address based on each connected network.

What I like About New Brave Wallet

Let's come to the point. New brave wallet is a good option for the browser. I am sure in near future even metamask can use interface like this and even allow other browsers to embed that by default.

There are few issues though.

  1. Finding option to add new network is not easy.
  2. They should allow BAT transfer to this wallet.
  3. They also need to have better interface to detect various in-page prompts.
  4. Ability to import this wallet to Trustwallet or external wallet is not clear.

Conclusion

New brave wallet is good and if you have it then you should upgrade and import your existing wallet. It is simple and less painful than the Metamask settings. In near future I hope that the brave wallet just gets easier than this with many missing features covered.

It is the KYC that gets me. When I found out I could not spend my BAT without registering as a crypt-offender, I decided to toss out my keys and chuck the BAT coins into the trash.

Same for me. That's why you don't see me enabling BAT rewards or holding anything in this wallet. :)

Just hold the tokens in your wallet for the time being - you never know when the rules might change ;)
