Mail Services Struggling To Keep Up With High Demand

Holiday E-commerce sales recently grew by at least 50 percent during the holiday. Places like Amazon, Walmart, Target, and others, saw sales boom significantly in the past several weeks.

Because of COVID-19, people were already spending more money online and looking to do all of their shopping from home. This added the pressure on mail services, along with bad weather situations in certain places, for USPS and other mail services, has meant that they have been struggling to try and keep up with the demand.

Looking To hire hundreds of thousands, FedEx planned to bring on 70,000 new workers this winter holiday season.

Mail sorting rooms have been adding more workers to help temporarily sort through packages, and UPS was looking to add at least 100k new people for this winter season, and still there have been packages and letters backed up for weeks.

What might have previously taken a week to get to its destination might now be sitting in a sorting room waiting to be sorted for weeks now. They've been seeing record breaking shipping records and that has added to the wait times that people are going to be experiencing.

Many customers have already been complaining about their packages showing up late, or not showing up at all.

Some truck drivers have reported extremely long wait times while waiting at post offices too, some of them waiting for 15 hours or more. They have had trouble just dropping off their shipments of packages, because everything has been so backed up for them, they're running out of room.

The snow storm and flooding hasn't helped any either, adding to the mail difficulties. The rapid increase in online orders has meant that there will likely be millions of packages that are now going to be delivered late.

They've got packages stacked from wall to wall, waiting to be sorted, and they can't even get through them quick enough so that other trucks can come through with theirs. Add the weather, high volume of packages, and various workers having to leave sick or quarantine because of COVID-19, it has sure made this holiday ordering season an interesting one.

Demand for online ordering increased significantly because of the pandemic. I sent some documents via Fedex to a friend and they took a month to arrive when the estimated time was a week, the system is collapsed.
