Existen palabras que son muy fáciles de pronunciar pero a su vez, muy difíciles de explicar, al final, todas ellas adquieren un significado distinto dependiendo de cada individuo. Una de esas palabras es el amor.
¿Cómo podemos conseguir un sólo significado a una palabra que tiene millones de ojos detrás de ella? Puede que el diccionario dé una definición específica de ella, ¿pero es esas la realidad de esa palabra? o ¿es una forma de simplificarla? De cualquier manera siempre será un concepto relativo, que será ajustado de acuerdo a los ojos que lo miren.

How can we get a single meaning to a word that has millions of eyes behind it? The dictionary may give a specific definition of it, but is that the reality of that word, or is it a way to simplify it? Por cierto, ésta pregunta me hace recordar a la canción de Haddaway - What Is Love.
Para mí, el amor es una decisión, más allá del conjunto de emociones que esto puede traer consigo, nosotros somos quiénes decidimos amar a una persona o a un animal y, mantener esa decisión o tomar responsabilidad sobre ella.
Ya que si lo detallas minuciosamente, considerarlo un sentimiento es darle una fecha de caducidad, porque los sentimientos si se acaban. La tristeza es un sentimiento y no la mantenemos de por vida, lo mismo sucedería si el único significado posible para ésta palabra sea 'un sentimiento'.

For me, love is a decision, beyond the set of emotions that this can bring with it, we are the ones who decide to love a person or an animal and, keep that decision or take responsibility for it.
Because if you detail it thoroughly, to consider it a feeling is to give it an expiration date, because feelings do end. Sadness is a feeling and we do not keep it for life, the same would happen if the only possible meaning for this word is 'a feeling'.
El amor es una decisión que se carga de una responsabilidad muy grande, ya que involucra o quizás demanda otro tipo de cosas, como atención, lealtad, empatía y compromiso, pero no en el sentido matrimonial, sino en dar seguridad de que se estará involucrado con la otra persona o animal.
Aunque el amor también puede reflejarse en nuestro exterior, un ejemplo de ello sería: yo decido amar a la naturaleza, por lo tanto tomo como responsabilidad cuidarla y protegerla.
Lo mismo con las personas, las madres deciden amar a sus hijos y, su responsabilidad es mantenernos a salvo, protegernos, enseñarnos y entendernos también.
Porque, si lo vemos como un sentimiento, hay algunas veces que unos sentimientos reemplazan a otros, como la tristeza a veces opaca a la felicidad o viceversa. Si el amor fuese netamente un sentimiento, podría reemplazarse o adormecerse de forma rápida.
Si bien es cierto qué, el amor involucra muchísimas emociones y sensaciones, esto no lo condiciona.
Love is a decision that is loaded with a very big responsibility, since it involves or perhaps demands other types of things, such as attention, loyalty, empathy and commitment, but not in the marital sense, but in giving security that one will be involved with the other person or animal.
Although love can also be reflected in our exterior, an example of this would be: I decide to love nature, therefore I take as a responsibility to take care of it and protect it.
The same with people, mothers decide to love their children and, their responsibility is to keep us safe, protect us, teach us and understand us as well.
Because, if we see it as a feeling, there are times when some feelings replace others, like sadness sometimes overshadows happiness or vice versa. If love were purely a feeling, it could be quickly replaced or numbed.
While it is true that love involves many emotions and sensations, this does not condition it.
Por ello, cada vez que te encuentres a personas a tu alrededor que te expresan su amor, detrás de esa expresión hay una decisión tomada con la convicción de responder por ti cuando lo necesites, de acompañarte cuando lo necesites.
De igual forma, date la oportunidad de sentir todos aquellos sentimientos que vienen cargados junto al amor, el poder entenderlos y disfrutarlos nos otorga la posibilidad de desarrollar nuestra inteligencia emocional.
