I would like to start by saying that depending on the eye of the beholder, history is either a series of blunders or an ever-receding mirage always being chased. If the universe were a perfect place, the decisions that we make would be irrelevant, because there would be no reason to believe in free will. However, for all its promise and flaws, no matter how much or little we can control our destinies, it does not change the fact that we must ask ourselves if the end result is really worth it.

Just as there is no sense getting angry at a leaf for falling down when there's no wind, and no point in blaming the door when someone doesn't knock, there's also no point in being angry at the government or your parents or whoever. The only thing you can really change is yourself. You might not be able to change the whole world around you, but if you change the smallest part of it, maybe that will change other people's way of thinking and help them to understand that they deserve respect. By speaking out we make people face the reality of abuse.

According to this idea, your motivation is irrelevant. Your action is what matters, whether you were motivated by rage or love. It is true that your emotions have nothing to do with the morality of an action. For example, a husband might murder his wife because he loves her. But, for all that, the action is still wrong. Maybe the husband couldn't help himself (insanity defense). Or maybe not, and you would still want to punish him for murdering his wife. The important point here is the difference between side effects (emotions are side effects) and the morality of an action itself (the action is what matters).
